As the owner of far too many 15 inchers, I can't stress enough how eager I am for the 12's to hit shelves. I'm forced to live with this *ugh* thinkpad. I would trade it any day for a 12 inch mac. 15'' just doesn't fit my life at this point and they're confined to my desk, whereas the 12 rides wherever.

Anybody got an idea? I know they are on the horizon, but in 2007?

I just don't think the 12 inch PowerBook will be re-incarnated in the form of a MacBook Pro.

I think the MacBook replaced it.

I'd bank on an ultra-portable Mac, later this year, maybe next year.

Uh, except the Macbook officially (and identically) replaced the iBook, not the powerbook. 12'' MBP ultraportable rumors have been flying everywhere, including here. I thought someone might have a more definitive date since I've been gone.

I think that an ultraportable macbook pro would definitely slow down macbook sales, so I don't know what Apple's take on this issue is...only time will tell !

Margins would probably be higher on the ultraportable, so Apple would be very happy if it took away Macbook sales.

I wonder how much it cost apple to actually make one of those computers. I know for a fact that apple sells the computers to retailers for the around 10 bucks less than the MSRP.

Never, since it can't handle a high end gpu anyway why would they need it when they already have the macbook?

Think pads are great laptops. They have an excellent keyboard. I have had zero problems with mine running Ubuntu or windows. You might be better off just buying a 12" powerbook.

I should change my name to UMPCGal. I SO want a smaller, web browser style machine, kinda like a pepper pad.
