I'm asking. The poster said a Mac Pro was needed to run Final Cut Pro. Since I don't use FCP and the story I linked on FCP shows a laptop I curious if a Mac Pro is really needed to run it.

Depends on the level of editing you're doing. Some sorts of editing would be very difficult (and slow) in a Macbook Pro.
 
It shows that the new FC will be true multicore friendly and it will run as good on 3.1 MP as well as the brand new MBP
yes the newer computer you have the better it will run, but multicores/threads will give you bigger advantage than cpu speed
I was told that new FC will run close to 4 times faster on the same computer as current FC
so there for core will matter as well as allot of ram
 
While the store is being updated we're likely to see new MacBook Pros, not Mac Pros.
