There is beta testing underway. More testers may be added soon.

Can you give us any info about the beta? Were these from the signup page on steampowered.com?

If so, do you know the acceptance rate for the people who applied?
Also , will we have to redownload our source games or will we be able to restore from the backup from steam on windows? Thanks!

Valve has posted a new banner saying the Steam Beta is nearing completion, so it shouldn't be long enough (the icon in the banner looks similar to the icon found in the Steam Resource Files).

I also did some looking around and found these in the Steam Resource files:

This seems to be the icon for the Mac version of Steam:

While these two seem to be the menu bar icon set:

Can't wait for it to be released ^_^

Hey in my steam account there is this note about complimentary...(dizzy from threads)

I don't know where I should post this question, but when I open and look at my new steampowered.com account, it has this notation under "Licenses and Subscriptions"(hell how do I upload a screenshot here?) that says that I have Steam as a "complimentary acquisition", does anyone know what that means? I am a new Steam user (now that it is coming out for Mac I no longer have any excuse for not joining the gang every Thursday night). For the record, I am waiting for steam in order to play the old version of "Day of Defeat" on my tower, as a total newbie, with some four or five regulars. Thanks.

@Dagless & txa1265

But he's not cleaning up.
He's not the one picking up the leftovers and putting them in the trash, the only thing he says is "there's another bit a garbage on the ground", and then doing nothing...
"A true gentleman cleans up after himself, and others, should the need arise."

I agree that the posts are useless and mosely annoying, but please, if you have the power, just delete them, and otherwise contact a Mod instead of doing nothing usefull. That's what a true gentleman would do !
Otherwise you're just as bad as those "macrumors newbies" starting these topics.

+1

Don't you guys know "Planet Valve" has it own rules for release dates :D

Having used Steam for 8 years this comes as no surprise that the release date has come and gone without a response.

I have also been using Steam, ever since they released it with HL2 I think... Steam will release stuff whenever the hell they want. Although annoyingly a lot of companies seem to be doing that now with games, like Steam there is also Blizzard with SC2 (about 2 years delayed) although I think the worst ever is (and still is currently getting worse and worse) Polyphony with GT5, I am getting pretty annoyed TBH, I ordered them ages ago :

It seems Mac users don't know about Valve Time. How cute.

QFT x 1000. I dread the hordes of my fellow Apple users complaining about Valve time while defending Apple's hardware release time tables and lack of info. Welcome to Valve, folks! They make great games but don't get your panties in a knot when they overshoot a release date by about 2 years. :D

Edit: Valve Time, for the uninitiated: http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Valve_Time

Soon I hope. I've had to sell my gaming rig. I wouldn't mind a bit of Portal on my MacBook.

Is there anyway we can submit to Valve our Steam account, game hours played, games purchased, and then a list of Macrumors threads we have started our partcipated in over the last 3.5+ years talking about Steam, gaming on a Mac, the dream of Steam for OS X, Crossover-VMWare-Parallels-CIDER-WINE, etc.

Maybe a complete history of our hardcore gaming and devotion to OS X will get a foot in the door rbarris?

Kidding ;)

Steam coming to Mac on Monday?

Following on from Steam's original announcement that they are coming to Mac in April, they've now announced that the Windows version of the new client will come out of beta on Monday also.

If Valve want to release in April and not on Monday, they are leaving it late!

No. It's only been in beta for a week. Do you really need to start a new thread about this?

It was already said by another user on the forums that the Mac Beta has in testing for longer than but with less people.

If you want a source, look for posts by rbarris.

Valve already said it isnt coming Monday (look in the Steam forums you might have to dig)

The quote was like this "Steam for Mac will not come Monday Mac OS X users will have to wait a bit longer"
