Ars Technica's website reports that AppleInsider is touting some new iMac features . . . but the poll they set up on the blog is hilarious:
What will the new mystery iMac features be?
- Blu-ray support
- SD card slot
- SSD drive
- USB 3.0
- It will actually be the iTablet
- New iSight lens that will remove 10 pounds
- Built-in Steve Jobs health meter
- Whatever everyone else voted was horrible, I have a better idea in the comments
Here's my thinking...
1. Many people here have said that the iMacs will not be upgraded soon because there are no significantly new mobile CPUs.
2. There have been suggestions that the iMac's design will be changed in the new version.
3. A new design change could allow for a different kind (non-mobile) CPU.
4. Therefore, it's entirely possible that a new iMac with a significantly upgraded CPU could be produced soon.
Only a full design change would allow anything but Penryn, Clarksfield, or Arrandale in the next iMac.
That's right... but it's not outside the realm of possibility, especially considering recent rumors.
This one: https://www.macrumors.com/2009/08/07/next-generation-imac-to-offer-two-compelling-new-features/
... which states, "Finally, sources suggest that Apple may be undertaking a redesign of the iMac enclosure..."
I would argue that there is little sense in assuming that it definitely won't occur when there are some indications that it might.
Your comments consisted of a declaration that you don't know anything about the future. Thanks for your input...
If you follow their update cycle, we could be in for an update in the oct/nov range. I think the September iPod event is too early, but I strongly believe that Apple will do a refresh before the Christmas season.
If they wait for the new Intel chips (which aren't coming until early 2010) It could be nearly a year before they update the iMac.
