My new MP hexcore was ordered last week and I am wondering where they ship from. In the past I recall China, Los Angeles, Elk Grove,CA, Texas.

Would any of you recent purchasers let me know?

akadmon - your tracking # would have the origin location - unless you are picking it up from an Apple Store.

My order has been in "processing" mode now for going on 5 calendar days - seems like a long time to box it up and have UPS / FedEx pick it up. Especially for such an outdated computer that is not selling well ;)

I'm picking up at an Apple store in a neighboring state. Just curious, why does it matter to you where it ships from? Mine is a BTO, so it's possible it didn't ship from where it was assembled. Apple may have a central facility (in CA?) where they add BTO items to machines they wearhouse there.

China

My last one, ordered right from Apple online, came to my house in California direct from China. Shanghai if I remember correctly. It only took 3 days! It was a BTO also.....

It is due in by Wednesday or Thursday - doubt it will make it by tomorrow or Thursday if it ships from China or Ireland - just trying to arrange my schedule for migrating over to the new MP as we have a lot of construction going on.

Dr Stealth - thanks - with Tim Cook's supply chain focus (small days of inventory on hand) these things may well be out of China complete.

Apple has been really good about meeting delivery dates, so, patience, young grasshopper :)

Just got notified my MP shipped (went from processing to preparing for shipment to shipped in a nano second).

It is coming out of Texas - not what I would like as the last one from Texas arrived in horrible shape - the box was covered in oil / grease - refused to accept it. Hope this one arrives in better shape.

NOT DIRT - oil and grease - the box was actually soggy. No way in hell was I going to accept something like that.

Most everyone is advised to inspect a package BEFORE accepting delivery.

Its a white box, its bound to look unsightly on delivery, its your call however.

Meanwhile I ordered a hex core last Tuesday, it finally shipped on Saturday, I understand its shipping from Cork Ireland, to Dublin Ireland, via the Netherlands! yes thats what happens! its due to be delivered next Tuesday week, I guess its winging itself around the world only to come back to its home land!

Glad to hear that Cork is still assembling them - the Irish economy needs the help.

The circular delivery routing - we've all experienced it :D

akadmon - I live near Apple HQ in California - my MP is coming from Texas. You are in the NE and yours comes from CA???

Go figure....

Sounds like it arrives safely - let us know your impressions.

First impressions (already installed the RAM and transferred my OSX stuff to a new 512 GB SSD) -- it's not as snappy as I thought it would be. I would say it's probably between 1.5x and 2x as fast as my old 1,1 (judging the length of time 1:1 previews take to load in Lightroom 4.1). I'll try to run some benchmarks while I still have the old MP. Anyway, I'm keeping this baby. I'm sure it will hold me over until the next big thing from Apple.

Yes (Elk Grove, CA). And I'm proud to support the American worker.

Weird. I thought all apple products were make in china.

Actually the Mac Pros(and formerly the XServes as well) tend to be made in the US. If that is due to the weight, materials, or export restrictions I am not sure....

As you well know - very dependent on what software is taking advantage of the extra cores.

However, I would expect some significant snap on the processor advances.

My old 1,1 was (is) snappy enough when it came to the Finder, Safari and VMWare. I didn't expect a huge improvement there (something on the order of 25-50%, based on processor and memory speed). But I am kind of disappointed in Lightroom performance, given that LR does take advantage of multiple cores (I now have 6 vs 4 in my 1,1), and considering that I now have a faster video card (5870 vs. 4870).

That would annoy me too.

Adobe software is a little quirky at times, but I've spent an inordinate amount of time with it. Where is it bogging down on you?

I'm a hobbyist photographer, and an obsessive pixel peeper to boot (didn't mean this to sound like an intro at an AA meeting). Some days I take 200-400 pictures, so every extra second waiting for the 1:1 preview to load or refresh in Lightroom adds up. My first impression is that the 6-core 5,1 is faster than my old 1,1 quad in that department, but I really expected more of an improvement. Oh well. just the fact that I have a brand new machine (spare me the Mayan calendar jokes), one that is capable of supporting at least the next 2 major versions of OSX, is worth it to me.

Once again

My MP shipment out of Fort Worth has been misrouted / lost

It was scheduled for delivery this morning but who knows now?

My experience with EVERY SHIPMENT out of this facility has been bad.

I just told FedEx, when they find it, just return it to Apple - got to find some better arrangement.
