My hex core was shipped from Texas. It was scheduled to be delivered tomorrow, but is a day early and already on the truck. I've had this experience with FedEx and apple before. It's quite nice.

This is my first Mac Pro, and I'm excited.

It's very interesting that the Mac Pro is built in the US.

Interesting update on my Mac Pro, my web order shows a tracking number for expiditors, I ordered a cto air, and a hex core Mac Pro, my tracking info shows 2 pces left Shanghai and arrived in London Heathrow yesterday, on a Vigin Atlantic scheduled flight. The 2 pieces total 19kg in weight, I also ordered 2 27" Led cinema displays and a case for the air, so all will merge before one single delivary. I also bought applecare as it will cover the displays if bought together. 32gb of crucial ram arrived yesterday. Really looking forward to the Mac Pro's arrival.

Congrats on your new gear and smoother purchasing / shipping experience.

How I can get gear from China very quickly and with no foul ups but from Texas to Memphis to central Kalifornia - forget about it.

I suspect 99% of the transactions go well - I am just "snake bitten" on shipments from Texas.

They aren't. Essentially everything Apple sells is made in China. Low volume products like the MacPro are shipped and stored in the US in bulk. Then shipped locally.

Yeah, you're right. I just took delivery of the machine and noted on the bottom that it says the usual "Designed..." and "Assembled in the USA."

And assembled does not mean manufactured. At any rate, it's a gorgeous machine. I'm waiting to install the OS on an SSD....

True that! Congrats on your purchase? Which model did you get? I'd love to see some Geekbench scores!

I got the hex core. With my education discount it ended up being a 450.00 upgrade, and I think it hit a sweet spot for me. I only do audio, so it should be great.

I'm wondering if I should sell my 2011 Macbook Air and just get an iPad for surfing, email and word processor stuff. I think between the Mac Pro and an iPad I should be more than covered.

Mines built in the Republic of Cork.

Up de rebels!

"How are you going boy?" :)

My 2006 Mac Pro 1.1 was a stock top of the range 3.GHz Quad Core, I ordered it from the Apple Store Ireland at 10am and it was delivered to me by 4pm the same day! Cork to Dublin is a 3 hour drive.

That has to be the fastest Apple Store purchase and delivery EVER! :)

I agree with all sentiments expressed here, there is something incredibly satisfying about having something built on local home ground.

If my new Pro arrived in an oil-soaked box, and I were there at the time, I'd ask the delivery guy to wait a minute while I cracked the box to make sure that the oil had not reached the 'puter (which is isolated from the periphery of the box with sculpted styrofoam). Unlikely that it had done so, though I would want to check! However, if it were okay, then despite the fact that I'd gotten a crummy box, I wouldn't want to wait one more minute to set that puppy up and play with it for a while!...

Just got notified my MP shipped (went from processing to preparing for shipment to shipped in a nano second).

It is coming out of Texas - not what I would like as the last one from Texas arrived in horrible shape - the box was covered in oil / grease - refused to accept it. Hope this one arrives in better shape.

Just got my hex core yesterday from Irving, Texas, FedEx ground. I arrived in perfect condition, even the box was clean.

Moving stuff to it now from my G5 Quad 2.5. The hex core is amazingly fast. Shoulda got one last year, but the G5 was working fine. So I saved a few bucks by waiting. But couldn't hold out any longer for a really new, redesigned one. Saved lots on 32 GB of memory frow MacSales. Paid just slightly more for 16GB sticks, soi can go to 64GB if I need to.

Texas. FedEx says it will arrive Monday. Hopefully the box won't have been abused and the computer will be undamaged... I have no qualms, though, about making Apple get it right.

I have a new 3.06 12 core coming Monday. I will load it with 24 gigs of ram. I ordered it with the ATI 5870. I will probably add an SSD. I use it for 3d modeling, and animation. This thing should blow my againg 2.8 dual quad core away (2008). Hoping to reduce my render time by 2.5 times. I have been very happy with my 2008 Mac Pro. I love the case, and am glad I bought possibly the last offering of it.

Beyond that you're getting past the point where it's really practical to render on a single system. Are you able to use your 2008 in a distributed manner if the rendering portion of your workflow is the primary bottleneck? I'm not familiar with what renderer you're using or the associated render node licensing terms.
