Where do you put your MacPro/PowerMac?

I am trying to clean up my Mac inventory by selling a few machines to make room for newer one. My next purchase is MacPro and I am wondering where do you put your MacPro? Do you put it on the desk, under the desk, side of the desk or somewhere else? I don't want to crush my desk by overloading too much with heavy stuffs. I think MacPro is at least 40 lbs.

Since I have a glass desk, I decided it might be safer to put the Mac Pro on the floor, but I bought a bunch of bookshelves and stacked them to raise it up from the floor level in an effort to keep it out of dust/dirt/cat hair accumulation, etc.

When you put your MacPro/PowerMac under the desk, is it inconvenient to go under your desk to use DVD player or use USB/FW ports? If you use the USB/FW hubs, I think you won't have any issue as long as the hubs have long enough wire to reach the desk.
I have been a laptop/portable computer person; so, I am not used to a big unit sitting on my desk.

I keep mine in my dreams. It doesn't collect any dust there and I've found that overall system stability/performance is much better.

At home: It's on one of those huge chrome metal rack things that can hold 350 lbs. per shelf.

At work: Since I have a corner desk, it sits behind my monitors, just close enough to reach the exposed optical tray.

I have mine on a piece of what was my nightstand, nice wood piece with a couple of drawers (for cables, CDs and DVDs, external hard drives). The height is just right for optical drive access (maybe a little high but I'm not complaining ) and full access to everything in back is just 3 steps from where I sit.

I at one point kept it on top of my desk next to my monitor, but changed to under the desk (its L-shapped desk, corner desk) so I keep my monitor in the corner on top and G5 below...

I have a corner desk (big long desk that sweeps around the corner of the room), my Mac Pro sits underneath alongside the wall. I can still access the DVD Tray easily enough just reaching down to my right when needs be. I really didn't fancy putting such a huge weight on my desk

A good thing to remember: give your Mac Pro plenty of breathing space so that it has lots of room to exhaust the heat out of its vents and lots of room to take in fresh, cool air.

Mine is on the floor to the right of my chair. Its easy enough to reach the DVD drive as it opens up next to my side. All i have to do is lower my hand, no need to stretch etc.

My room gets really bad dust as there is usually someone in the room most of the time which reminds me my G5 may benefit from a dusting inside and out tonight. After cleaning the fish tank though

My room is big and open so the G5 has a lot of space to breathe-in, however there is limited space behind to exhaust the heat as it is only about 6 inches from the wall and there is a multitude of wires. But at least it keeps my feet warm.

I highly suggest that you don't put it on the floor. This will suck in alot of dust. Try to keep it off the floor. Unless you plan on dusting it out every couples months keep it off the floor.

In my desk, a slot for the computer, although i can't close the door anymore, cuts off circulation and the temp in the Mac pro jumps about 10 -20 degrees.

my Ge sits on the other side of my desk,looks so sloppy. Wish i could store it else where and network it to the Mac pro. Maybe i will get around to that one day.

Do you have one of the liquid cooled G5's? I think that contributed substantially to the weight.

For those with G5s, beware of the dust. Unfortunately, just blowing out the inside may not be enough, you may eventually have to pull out the processors, heatsinks and the bottom plate to get to the power supply.

I think the shipping weight of my Mac Pro was about 60 lbs too.

I keep it on top of the desk on the far right edge. It's a sturdy desk that seems to hold the weight well.

It doesn't fit underneath anyway. There's a metal bar that runs between the legs, and the MP is just slightly too tall to clear it.

On top it's much more convenient to access the disc drives as well as the USB and other ports on the front, which I use often enough.

Under the desk. I've always kept towers under the desk. I just can't stand having them on the desk.

I kept my G5 on the floor next to my desk. This leaves space on the desk and a keeps the noisy components at a distance. The access of the optical drive is not a problem, actually I think for me it would have been more inconvenient to reach up if the machine was placed on top of my desk. The connection of USB devices was not a problem, because I could just connect them to a hub and even reaching down to the front USB port was not that bad (and for me it was not necessary too often).
