Has Apple officially announced the lower 1/3 yellowing problem that some 15" led MBPros have? I ask this, because in my country (we dont have an Apple store) the Apple offical distributor says that he has not been given any notice of a problem with the led MBPros! How can this be? Everyone in the states is having their problem MBPros replaced and here Apple hasnt advised/informed our dealer?
Where is Apples announcement/admitance of the problem anyway, cause this is beggining to be strange?

What bottom 1/3 yellowing issue? I've never heard about it, I promise :)

Seriously though, companies don't like admitting they were wrong. That's my guess.

In all my reading, I haven't stumbled on this one either. News to me.

Edit:

Strange, now I stumbled onto the discussions about it. How weird that I missed them before.

exactly... the MBPs have tons of flaws. and im just waiting for Apple to iron them out.

I had purchased one MBP, but returned it because i dont want to deal with any crap that it comes up with few weeks down the road.

Well. Firstly, do you have an MBP? Does it yellow like a banana?

If you had never read those threads, you will never have known about yellowing.
actually i went to a shopr here and tested the one they had there using the black and white pics and it had the problem yes!

Bring an unrelated third party along, don't tell them about the yellowing issue, and ask them if they notice anything wrong with the screen.

If this person says...

A) OH MY GOD! ITS YELLOW!
-Then theres obviously a problem

B) *stares* I don't see anything... *presses face to screen* Looks fine to me..
-Theres no problem.

Well ill be doing color corection on the MBPro so theres no way i wont be seing the problem! Point is, im not purchasing a 2500$ laptop so ill be having a faulty slightly yellowish screen... okay?

Well.. Okay.

Consider though, only people with the "issue" will make threads to complain. The majority of users who don't have the "issue" will not open a thread to say "Morning guys. Bought new MBP. No yellowing issue. Just signed up to tell you guys. K THX BB" You don't see people when there are no issues, only when there are.

If you would like to slowly tally up the scores from https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/343219/ , taking into consideration my previous points, you might get some insights.

;)Cheers

Still this is not the point, a few users having a problem doenst mean there is no problem! lets not get off topic here, is there or isnt there an official announcement by Apple?

I spoke with several Apple Stores yesterday in the Seattle/Portland area and specifically asked if they had any returns due to (partial) screen yellowing issues and they seemed unaware of it. So if there is an "official" Apple policy, it hasn't reached the stores.

On a side note, I found each store had varying policies with regards to "checking" the screen before walking out with it. One store said, "no problem!", they would let me compare until I was satisfied. Another store said absolutely no open box checks of the screen, if I found the yellowing and returned it, it would be considered a "buyers remorse" return and subject to 10% restock fee. He made some comment about the "forums" reporting the yellowing problems being an insignificant % of the total sales.

No, there isn't. And unless/until the problem reaches some pre-determined critical mass AND Apple is 100% certain it's fixed, there won't be any official Apple position on the issue.

No company likes to admit production flaws, but Apple is more tight-lipped than most.

Just sent back my Week 36 yellowed Samsung screen. An agent I talked to on the phone said it was an "established problem" but the other agents I talked to didn't admit to anything like that. And believe me, it's only yellowed if you can see it without the White/Black squares image. If you can't see it without that, how could it be a problem?

I'm always a bit skeptical when anyone employed at Apple says they've never heard of an issue which has made the rounds on the Internet, including at Apple's own support site. Even AppleCare phone support people seem to be totally taken aback by the most common issues. "The lid on my MBP doesn't close evenly..." --- "We've never heard of that." Bullsh*t: a truly insignificant issue, but it happens to affect probably 95% of production for several years now.

I wouldn't be surprised to find that Apple's official tech support policy is "Admit Nothing".

That's correct when I was in support. You do not discuss any issues others are experiencing. You will get into trouble if you do. Customers will use it to their advantage later in an issue. For example, "Your tech said others had the problem, fix it!"

I sought out this forum only after seeing the issue and wanted to know if it was experienced by others. I wanted to know how others went about resolving the issue. GavinTing's comments are not helpful and only betray an uncaring Apple supporter. I know he will seek out this thread and try to silence any dissention until it agrees with his myopic unfounded opinions. That is why problems continue and are never resolved by companies. I ask that he stop his campaign at dispelling this very real issue.

It is very clear that the 15.4" Samsung glossy screens have an issue. Another person reported the issue today. The floor models at the store are using LG screens, it's a bit like a bait and switch scheme. That is what you want an LG screen.

All of the MBP's that we got (18) had yellowing. Apart from heat issues which are expected and a build problem on one, no DOAs - which is not too bad in terms of outright usage-blocking problems.

Although I'm aware that MBP's are in general infested by multitudes of bugs, none of us are bothered by something like this to be honest since we don't do any colour critical work and it is not extremely annoying in normal use. I might however have mine replaced, but even for me it's not a big issue.

It doesn't mean that I don't think these machines are POS's of course in terms of build quality, engineering and quality control of course. Sony's, Lenovos, HP's and Dells in this class just don't come with all the attendant issues that MBP's do.

If you need / want an MBP, go buy it because the beauty - apparently - of OS X is that you don't really have a choice. If it's not right and it affects you, go complain and see if they correct the issue. That's really all there is to it.

Sadly I was serious. I had never even stumbled onto a single post about that issue.

Then, suddenly after reading this posting, I ran smack into one on accident. How weird.

I'm new to Apple products but I have to wonder if they are more interested in other things right now like the iTouch and iPhone. Are they too diversified?

this defect is compeltey unacceptable for a preimium priced product. the old line "people only come on here if there somthing wrong so therefore the vast majority of machines are ok" is compelete nonsense.

most people come on here due to there intrest in apple, it will provide a good sample of apples users. there are probably loads more people with bad samsung screens that dont use internet forums. the sheer amount of people that have bad screen that post on here leads me to belive this is a large scale problem. apple really need to sort out there QC otherwise people will twig and will simply stick with brands like dell and lenovo which offer better value for money.

Has anyone had the screen replaced instead of having the whole computer switched? I bought my MBP for a photo editing trip I'm taking in 2 weeks and will address the issue after I get back. I have added RAM and have installed a ton of software that I don't want to have to reinstall on a new machine. I'd rather they just switch out the screen.

My screen will be replaced the next couple of days, the authorised service provider called today and said they had received it. I went there and showed them my bad screen I think it was the 29th of August. (I have a samsung screen week 23 with slight yellowing at the bottom and a darker band of approximately 1 cm round the borders of the screen.) I have used the computer in the meantime because they knew it would take a while and I need it.

Regrettably, I went to the authorised service provider after two weeks had passed since I bought it, and when I said I really couldn't work with a defect display they said they of course hoped and thought the new screen would be ok, but that they would only change it once... something I find rather scary...
