Am I the only one that noticed this over the years.

It seems to have become quite common to have at least one hardware fault on each product mainly their notebooks, if not on arrival then several months later. It just seems to be the accepted norm as an Apple consumer... wierd.


I love Apple's products for their OS and designs...but when you look at say laptops from other competitors like Dell, Gateway or IBM for example, apple just seems to have a higher fault rate.

I want to get another notebook soon..17" but it's like play Russian Roulette...

And you rarely hear of the multitude of hardware issues with the other manufacturers that Apple gets. I have friends with Apple notebooks and they all have had hardware issues at some point..

Common hardware issues on Apple notebooks:

- uneven back lighting on the lcd's even after just 6 months use.
- dead or graying areas on the screen but not quite dead pixels.
- heat (some other manufacturers have this issue I must admit)
- uneven lids
- battery swelling

at the end of the day we could shift the blame and all say oh Apple just assemble's their laptops and they don't "manufacture" the parts they use to assemble the notebooks but they are indeed responsible. We deal directly with them not their suppliers.


I've had several laptops from other companies and none had as much defects as I've come accross with the Apple ones...and you would've thought the reverse for paying such a hefty premium compared to other companies.

I'm typing this on a Gateway laptop that was bought back in 2003 with no screen issues, no dead pixels...battery still charging fine...does run hot though..with a p4 3.4ghz not exactly the best mobile chip from intel.

I've been lucky to use other laptops from Dell, IBM, Sony, Toshiba and I can't ever recall any defects like what you see in Apple products and never heard from any people I deal with. The only thing might of been faulty batteries which alot recalled. but that's about it....

I think Apple really need to take a hard look at quality control and starting demanding proper tests before they leave the factory and the suppliers should have their own quality control in place.

I have been saying that for a while now, I had 4 bad macs, 3 being macbooks all QC issues, I went back to Vista for 8 months and bought a MBP and love this thing...I will never get another Macbook because of all the issues...and I am very happy with the Pro....
 
I'm new to Apple products but I have to wonder if they are more interested in other things right now like the iTouch and iPhone. Are they too diversified?

Could be.

Personally, I liked beige. It was ugly, sure. But, it was reliable and solid.

Let's get back to reliability and quality first and then talk about being pretty :)
 
I have been saying that for a while now, I had 4 bad macs, 3 being macbooks all QC issues, I went back to Vista for 8 months and bought a MBP and love this thing...I will never get another Macbook because of all the issues...and I am very happy with the Pro....

I'm the opposite. I had so many issues with the MacBook Pro from grainy display, (first one), to whiny power supplies to dead batteries and now again to urine yellow screen tint that I have been learning to make do with a Macbook, which has no problems, although it is hard to get everything done on the smaller screen.

Macbook is what it is. It's somewhat limited, but still zippy, and rock solid, in my experience.
