U.K
I have yet to see one guestimate that the Edition will be below $1000. An ounce of gold is still around $1200. A number of people Apple hired in the last couple years came from luxury retail/brands which makes me think they're taking a different approach with wearables. They don't need a sales VP from Tag Heuer to get Watch in a store like Best Buy. But maybe I'm way off base and the hires are just a head fake. Maybe Watch edition with its custom leather box and charging cradle will be sold anywhere an iPhone or iPad is sold.

1. It's a thin piece of gold, the amount of gold actually in there is going to be fairly low.

2. Apple's huge economies of scale will get them a slight reduction in the price of gold.

3. I think selling it as $999 would still be considered very expensive for what it is.

No one knows yet the thickness of the case material.

Realistically I'd currently say it's probably around 1mm thick, much more than that and you start eating into the available space quite a lot.

I know 1mm may not sound much, and may be dismissed as silly talk, but given the actual size of the case, 1mm feels not too bad.

With a 1mm wall thickness, and an educated, probably not far off guess on internal cut outs...

For the large watch, that gives a actual total volume of 2196 cubic millimetres of gold.
Which = 42.34g of gold.
That's approx $1200 of actual 18K gold at the moment.

In theory that should not be a million miles off the mark, if as I say the case material is around 1mm thick, which looks reasonable at that scale.

So if there is a $350 aluminium watch (same internals on all watches)
Let's say the internals are $200

$1200 + $200 = $1400

Then you have the different material back, which in bulk may not be THAT much in real money and the strap.

As I've said for a long time, I'd not be surprised if we are looking at $1500 ish. Or rather that would be a possible price point.

Depending on the "Luxury mark up" that some seem to feel is going to push a potential/realistic $1500 ish into the $5000 area for "Fashion branding sake"

We don't know #1. All we know from people who were at the event and were able to see the gold version in person is it's heavier than the stainless steel and much heavier than the aluminum version.
