Of course, this will change once MacTels ship. I seriously doubt Apple will port OS 9 to x86 anytime soon and I don't think Rosetta will make OS 9 run correctly. The shipping of MacTels will be the official death of OS 9(aka Classic IMO)
Correct, I was able to play around with an intel Mac at one point and while trying to launch a classic application it said that the program and/or classic wasn't supported on the architecture. Maybe I can find a way to get a screenshot of it :D

And yeah I don't really think Apple will port Mac OS 9 to the x86 platform because in Steve Jobs' eyes Mac OS 9 is dead. I'm actually surprised it's been around this long. ;)

From what I heard, the Titanium Powerbook g4s were the last Macs to be "dual" bootable 9 and 10 OS. Discontinued with the 1ghz Tibook in Dec '02, I believe.

I was in your position a few months ago.

First, is your G5 a PowerMac G5 or an iMac G5?
Second, If you have a G5, did it ship with Jaguar, Panther, or Tiger? If you have an iMac, Panther or Tiger?
If it is a PowerMac, if it came with Jaguar or maybe Panther, chances are Mac OS 9, System 9, or Classic is already on there. Your iMac comes with it only if it came with Panther.

If your computer doesn't have classic here are your options:

Find the install disks that came with your computer. One of them should include a label saying "Mac OS 9.2" or something similar.

OR find a computer with Mac OS 9 installed, find the "System Folder" with the orange "9" on it, burn the System Folder to a CD, then drag and drop the System Folder to your G5.

Oh, and it won't be on the Panther Disks. I've tried and it's not on there at all.
