Where is the plan info?

My biggest concern right now is for information on plans. Apple said that they would be announcing plans before shipping-do they mean 5:55 pm on the 29th? I can't imagine that they don't already have this worked out nor do they fail to realize that buyers need to have an idea of the plan info before purchasing.

Any thoughts on when plan pricing/packages will be coming?
 
You know, I don't know why everyone is so confused about plans. I dont think they will alter them significantly if at all. You can go to cingular.com now to see their pricing options, including data. I'm expecting to continue paying $45 a month for data as I have in the past for my PDA.

I think that it's probably going to be pretty similar, so it's not necesarly confusion per se. But the Apple press release at http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2007/01/09iphone.html says "Apple and Cingular will announce service plans for iPhone before it begins shipping in June." That statement is pretty clear (I think, anyway) that they will be coming up with unique plans which has me, of course, salivating for the info. :)

But I suppose it may just be wishful thinking that they'll come up with an amazing plan that includes voice/unlimited data/text messaging at a good price. But you're probably right that it'll be about the same as they are now. I'm just anxious to get the details.

Thanks for that--never saw that sentence. Its interesting because I don't think at&t would want to piss off current data customers (treo/pda) with lower data plans only for iPhone customers. I have a Treo 750 and use the $45 a month plan with unlimited data and 1500 text--and I don't plan on paying more. If its true that Apple is wanting part of the monthly bill, the prices may go up.

If Apple/at&t plan on a new plan structure, they had better announce it soon so customers are prepared.

Sooner the better...I think they should get the info out before launch day, so there are less people in store thinking about what plan to get.

Give some people a chance to think about what they want before they launch
 
maybe the plans aren't all that great so they are delaying it until the last possible minute....after you have paid for the iphone itself :D

maybe there are no plans. maybe once you buy the iphone youre enrolled in a lifetime free unlimited voice/data "plan" and never deal with it again. apple is saving this news until the last minute so that everybody gets so hyped their heads splode.
 
I just got the info on the plan.....

On my lunch break I dropped by my local Cingular (at&t) store to ask them some questions regarding the iPhone.

This is what the employee told me, and she seemed pretty certain:

The data plan will be $39.95 (this is on top of your normal calling plan). The plan includes unlimited text messages and unlimited browsing. She reassured me by saying "The plan will have everything you need for this phone."

She also told me that they will be closing the store at 4pm on Friday, and reopening at 6pm, and she asked me not to camp out on the sidewalk. There was no chance I would do that anyway, since my wife is about to give birth to our 2nd child, and I'm stuck with verizon.

That seems like an expensive plan to me. I don't currently have a smartphone, but I would LOVE to get an iPhone. I have long lusted for a phone with a full keyboard.
 
take it with a grain of salt, but every time I email my local AT&T store, she replys with "we do not know very much, just that it requires an unlimited data plan at 39.99 a month, unless they change that" so im guessing they are changing that

In terms of phones with full keyboards, there are many more affordable options out there, such as a motorola Q for $79.99 and $30/mo (unlimited data, text messaging, 500 minutes, nights and weekends starting at 7) from Sprint.

yes, but motorola phone are the glitchiest phones i have ever experienced. i've had many and will never touch one again.

i fully agree, they suck, ive had a v551, SLVR, RAZR V3i, and a KRZR and they are all just slow and buggy

I've had them dating back well before those phones with nary a glitch. I got my first motorola phone in 1995, and had a StarTac, V60i, V325, V710, E810, Razr V3m, and Krzr without problems.

Might be the operator...

anyway, i was just commeting, that in terms of phones with real keyboards, iPhone is not really the top of the list. Virtual keyboards and real ones are two very different experiences.
 
I think the $39.99 sounds like the best thing they can do. $39.99 is already their data plan, they can just simply add unlimited M2M text messaging to that. Thats perfectly fine with me
 
Yeah, I don't think $40 a month data resonates with the mass public, on top of ATTs voice plans which already run higher than Sprint and T-Mobile in the US. I expect an AAPL stock drop if that's the data price.

Current Cingular smartphone plans are $20 for unlimited data, and I think that a two year EDGE requirement would drop that down a bit more, since EDGE will be considered very weak in the next year. Sprint offers the slow data speeds for $5 or $10, in comparison.
