I've had them dating back well before those phones with nary a glitch. I got my first motorola phone in 1995, and had a StarTac, V60i, V325, V710, E810, Razr V3m, and Krzr without problems.

Might be the operator...

anyway, i was just commeting, that in terms of phones with real keyboards, iPhone is not really the top of the list. Virtual keyboards and real ones are two very different experiences.

gee you're probably right. thanks for assuming that i'm an idiot who doesn't know how to properly operate a mobile phone. The razr is notoriously one of the worst phones ever made, and everyone i know who's had one has had to have it replaced multiple times (especially the pink one for some reason, though that could be because only girls buy the pink ones and throw them around).

yah pay for it then find out you can't GET a plan for it!

maybe the plans aren't all that great so they are delaying it until the last possible minute....after you have paid for the iphone itself :D

Everybody is still trying to find out if you have to live in an ATT/Cingular-served zip code. And everybody keeps getting told, don't worry you'll have a plan that works for your iPhone.

Yah but will they SELL IT TO US at all???

I keep warning people I had trouble getting my Cingular contract a couple years ago because I lived in a Verizon dead zone but shopped and played in Cingular-land. It took a lot of talking and hassling to get a Cingular plan even though I had one from my "home" turf already. And both of them are supposedly national plans. Both have all that fine print about making too many calls from "borrowed" towers, blah blah blah. So like all my friends I carry a different plan's phone depending on where I'm going today.

I am wondering if I should go to an ATT corporate store instead of an Apple store for this reason. I don't want to shell out for the iPhone and then find out I can't even get a plan, and worse can't even turn the iPhone on to sync locally to my own Itunes library on a powerbook. I wish I could just know what the full requirement is to turn the iPhone on in your house and have it work at all, just local parts like iPod and video or just net connection via wifi... ????? plenty enough of us live in dead zones but would still want to use our iPhone features at home.

Well, Apple said in a press release you would hear about the plans prior to its release. Tomorrow is a tuesday and is the 19th - 10 days away from launch. New info anyone? I hope so. Wishful thinking? Probably.

I think the $39.99 sounds like the best thing they can do. $39.99 is already their data plan, they can just simply add unlimited M2M text messaging to that. Thats perfectly fine with me

What if one chooses a data plan on the Family plan? Does it double, or are the minutes shared too?

Yeah, I don't think $40 a month data resonates with the mass public, on top of ATTs voice plans which already run higher than Sprint and T-Mobile in the US. I expect an AAPL stock drop if that's the data price.

Current Cingular smartphone plans are $20 for unlimited data, and I think that a two year EDGE requirement would drop that down a bit more, since EDGE will be considered very weak in the next year. Sprint offers the slow data speeds for $5 or $10, in comparison.

This is like what I have been trying to tell people. Iphone is targeted at the more general public, not necessarily business people nor techy gadget freaks who are used to paying $40 data plans on top of minute plans. I am thinking (and hoping) that Steve Jobs coerced AT&T to agree to specific iphone plans that encompass all that the iphone needs at an affordable price that normal folks won't balk at.
Now Apple and AT&T, hurry up and give us want we want!!!
