What is the best place to buy a MBA without paying sales tax other than Amazon? If I buy a refurbished MBA from the Apple store and pay sales tax on it, it will come out to be almost much as a new one from Amazon with no sales tax which makes me want to buy it from Amazon.

Are there any other online websites that you can you can buy from which does not charge the sales tax? Does California have any 'sales tax holidays' during the year? I know Texas has a couple of days during the year when no stores charge tax.

Thanks.

I believe Amazon.com does not charge sales tax for any states. So as long you are not planning to "customize" you MBA purchase, Amazon.com is probably an option for you.

MacConnection is offering a $100 mail in rebate at the moment. So the base 13" winds up being under $1200. No tax and free ground shipping.

Not so.

Items sold by Amazon.com LLC, or its subsidiaries, and shipped to destinations in the states of Kansas, Kentucky, New York, North Dakota, or Washington are subject to tax.

Maybe out states wouldn't be in as bad financial shape as they are if people would pay their damn taxes.

Thanks for the update. Didn't realize Amazon collected taxes for some states... I know North Carolina has a line on its yearly income tax forms to include all out of state non-sales taxed purchases so they can be taxed at the appropriate rate for county and city of residence (which I do out of a sense of civic duty). Perhaps more states should have the same type of requirement on their income tax forms?

If you live in California, Amazon will not charge sales tax.

Also, military exchanges do not charge sales tax but you must be eligible to purchase items there.

So if I buy the MBA from Powermax or Macconnection and something goes wrong with the computer, I can still bring it to an Apple store for repair/replacement as long as it is under warranty, right?

Also, can I get the Apple care from Apple after I buy the laptop from one of these places or can I buy it only at the time of purchase?

Powermax

Here's another vote for Powermax. I have purchased several items from them and couldn't be more pleased. My latest MBA from them is a very welcome addition to my arsenal. Also free shipping

I highly recommend them, you won't be disappointed.

Try B&H Photo Video for your purchase without sales tax. They usually have the higher BTO configurations available too, one of the few places that do. I purchased my loaded Air from them, as well as a fully loaded 2010 MBP with SSD and hi-res anti-glare screen last year.

You won't find an antiglare screen for the Air at any reseller since Apple doesn't make one in that configuration. The standard Air screen is very good however.

If you buy it from a 3rd party you can still bring it to apple store for repair because you have 1 year manufacture warranty. I'm not sure if you could do a replacement.

You can get apple care within the first year of your purchase.

Taxes in the US are the lowest they have been in 20 years. Attempts to tax internet sales have been defeated repeatedly but they are still trying.

Check Apple Insiders list. Right now the best prices with no tax and free shipping are mostly at MacMall depending on model. They may charge sales tax in Cali though.

They're working towards that goal in the US as well ...

Amazon, and MacMall are both pretty good.

Screw the tax. They steal enough of my money as it is.

Are there any other retailers other than B&H Photo Video and MacMall where you can customize your computer or at least buy the default higher end configuration?
