Just gave up and ordered the Apple official case online this evening in the Apple Store. Shipment is scheduled for 6 May with delivery on 11 May.
Nice... my iPad 3G will be here on 30 April and I'll have to wait twelve days to put it into the protective case. I should have thought about this sooner, but assumed the dang cases wouldn't sell like hotcakes!
