Thanks alienex for this thread and grapes911 for the Datamem suggestion. I usually just buy Crucial, but they're out of stock. Just ordered a 1GB from Datamem to complement the 1GB stick in the 1.83 MBP, hopefully it'll work just as well as Crucial.

Also, alienex I'd stick to buying 1GB sticks, 512MB sticks occupy valuable space should you wish to upgrade later. I have not found the matching sticks idea to have much weight, especially compared to upping your total RAM.

I can heartily recommend CanadaRAM. They are quick and have the best prices if you are in Canada. I was really pleased with my recent dealings with them.

LOL... I see that Trevor from CanadaRAM posted in this thread. Keep up the good work mate!

oh yeah, Trevor is an active member here on MacRumors. He is always helping people out, participating in the myriad of RAM related threads, dispelling myths/misunderstandings, and has far more patience than I in that respect! ;) :D

Whenever I need RAM again for my Mac, I'll definitely be dealing with him.

Update: Datamem is also out of stock. They sent me an e-mail apologizing for not having received the RAM to start with. No big deal of course since the MBP hasn't shipped either, but to answer the question of where to buy RAM for MBP, at this point nowhere.

I spoke to Data Memory Systems today: like all other RAM sellers, they order 300 from the manufacturer and get shipped 100 at a time, because demand is so high. However, they are getting new stock in every day, so there should be no more than a 1 day wait on the 1 Gb DDR2-667 SODIMMs. We have stock here in Canada for the Great White Macs.
