New CPU *should* be here today, I found an Allen Key that I can use in my tool box, so I can't wait to install and report back!

Also a bit off topic, my Mac Pro came with a Genuine Apple HD 4870 (EFI), can I use this in a normal PC? I ask because I upgraded to a EVGA GTX 680 (EFI), and would like to use the old 4870 in another PC.

I had weird temperature issues when I put my Mac 4870 into a PC. It might have just been my setup, but I had to manually adjust the fan all the time.

Sell it off on Ebay they pay crazy prices there and get yourself a reasonably modern power efficient card to put in the PC not something crawling on ten years old...

just installed my Mac 4870 into a PC, it's working great without issue!

FedEx just called me saying my package is being unloaded and I can pick it up later today. So hopefully in a few hours I'll be posting from my 6 core mac hehe!

W3680 Installed!
A Few Questions, In Windows using Prime95 set on Maximum heat stress test my temps hit 80*c and the fans spin up quite a bit, lowering it down to 75*C

idle: 35*c

do these temps seem normal? I had prime set to maximum heat stress test, so I'm guessing no normal programs will ever hit those temps?

I applied a pea sized of Arctic MX-4 to the center of the CPU, and tightened the heatsink evenly.

35 is fine on idle. Not a mx-4 pea person myself, as-5 is my preferred glop but like as5 you should start to see lower peak temps after a week or two of use.

thanks for the info on the temps, I guess I won't worry about it.

Performance wise, what an improvement, boot time has dropped, everything seems much more snappier!

I had a W3540 before.
