100 dollars in sales tax? California has the highest at: 8.25%

499 * 8.25% ~ $41
829 * 8.25% ~ $68

in new york which is one of the top sales tax states my 3gs iphone cost 10 bucks in sales tax. so that means the ipad is 25. thats not a lot.

ok sorry it was like 14 bucks or so. so the ipad will be like 32. that 8% sales tax. not a lot. you cant even get the apple case with that.

My sales tax is 8.25, i was too lazy to do the math so thats why i said almost $100. But i was right on, its a keyboards dock worth of tax for the 64gb 3g haha. But still, thats a worthwhile amount to wait and get your keyboard dock, case, camera connection kit, whatever you want to add to it.

if Amazon has delivery on the release date, I will definitely go with that. Otherwise, I will suck it up and pay the sales tax and get it from Apple.

They delivered my 3GS on release day, so I trust them to do the same here. It must have been a big release too cause the UPS man said "enjoy your iPhone" even though the box was not labelled. Probably delivered the same package many times before that day. :D

But yeah, if Amazon can do it on the delivery day it becomes a no brainer. For me, on the $499 model I plan to get, that's $50 in tax. I could add $20 and get a magic mouse too!

I am going to reserve it to pick it up at the Apple store here in San Francisco. Purchasing stuff directly at the Apple store is such a pleasure. I can get in and out far faster then any other store. Not to mention, its really an experience going into that store.

Of course, the other major reason is that its within walking distance and I really like that 0 day shipping :D

Since I am in California, the sales tax would cost me $138. I have to purchased two 3G iPads. I'm leaning towards Amazon since no tax and being a Prime Member.

amazon now collects sales tax :(

I'll probably get it from B&H Photo in order to avoid the sales tax. They carry most Apple products, so hopefully they'll carry the iPad as well.

see that's funny, because I try to avoid B&H because they have distribution in Cali so they charge sales tax.
