I would buy it anywhere to avoid the sales tax however I've heard that Apple will be the only store selling the iPad for now. So we are all going to have to pay the tax. Great more money down the rabbit hole.

Online with Apple. Pre order if I can (I'm in the uk).

I'm hoping Best Buy has them on release day, otherwise I'll probably just order off of Apple or Amazon and wait for delivery.

Pre-oredering online Friday so long as it delivers on April 3rd. If not, I'm picking it up at the Apple Store.

Doesn't look like irelands one of the first euro releases :(
guess I'm gonna fly to the uk and pick it up in an apple store, If I decide to get one :)

I think I'm going to purchase from apple instead of amazon. I read an interesting article in my local newspaper. It pretty much stated how much inventory amazon will sell of the ipad as it competes directly with the kindle. Now I'm sure amazon will like to make money off the ipad, but would rather like to make more money off the kindle platform. So I will purhase from apple and get on release day instead from amazon. Who knows how much they stock they have or how soon they will replenish that stock.

Everyone who says they buy online to avoid local sales tax are surely listing the items on their state taxes, right?
It is the law. ;)

It is? Show me. There are 50 different states with differing laws. No where is there a line item to do so in Minnesota. It is an impossible enforcement and tracking and besides I only pay sales tax at the point of sale. If Apple sold it to me I would have to pay sales tax because Apple physically does business in Minnesota. If I purchase from Amazon.com I don't pay because Amazon.com has no physical or corporate presence in Minnesota. I'd pay sales tax purchasing from Best Buy being they are a Minnesota corporation home officed in Minnesota. The only items I am aware of that I would have to pay tax on if I bought out of state would be vehicles and boats that have to be licensed. They get you there when you register if you hadn't paid a sales tax.

Here you go. Hope that helps, have a nice day.

And we wonder why so many states are going bankrupt.... aside from every other financial misstep that has happened thus far.

I'm pre-ordering from the Apple Store online as soon as I wake up tomorrow, for shipment to my home in Texas. Haven't decided whether I'll get the 32 or 64 gb version. Will definitely add the Apple case, although I just received the personal Muzetto (which the iPad fits in) from Waterfield Designs, and I absolutely love that bag.

I am picking mine up at the local Apple reseller herein Boise, MacLife. I have already put down $200 to make sure I get the first 64GB + 3G that comes through the door.

I'd order from Apple, and have it show up at my door on the same day when people are waiting in line at the Apple Store. That's what I do when a new iPhone goes on sale.

I'm really not sure. There is a lot to consider

Apple: Get it day-one. No shipping. Pay sales tax.
Amazon.com: Get it a few days after release, pay shipping (I'd probably upgrade the shipping) and no sales tax.
Best Buy: Get it an undetermined time after release, pay sales tax, but also reap employee discount (most likely won't be greater than $30).

I'll probably end up going with Apple.

where does it say you can do that. because the apple store is confuising

"Starting March 12, pre-order from the Apple Online Store or reserve for pickup at an Apple Retail Store."

I've wondered the same thing since it was announced. Can you make a reservation for your local store online, or do you have to physically visit the store? Even the guy at the Apple Store didn't know. It's very strange for Apple to be so ambiguous in their marketing.

Is it "(reserve for pickup) at (an Apple Retail Store)", or "(reserve) for (pickup at an Apple Retail Store)"?
