Preorders usually start on a tuesday for Friday release. Prossner already stated “get ur iPad Air money ready” and gurman stated that marketing material is starting to arrive at the apple stores.

this leads me to believe that preorders start next Tuesday with Friday delivery for initial orders / purchase one directly at an apple store.

and of course expect the usual slate of “influencers” to get their hands on the items first.

It's also possible they simply couldn't predict every element of their massively complex supply chain this year, and that they'll release them as soon as they have manufactured enough devices to make the release work.
Never stopped them before. In fact, faking short supply has probably sold more products than excess inventory. ?

Anyway, now that I know that the iPad AIR is the only model excluded from the AIRpods promo then I guess I'm no longer in a rush to buy. I just want reviews on how the speakers sound.

I don't think Apple needs to fake supply shortages. Back when they still reported unit sales on their 10K filings, it shows sales during the first quarter of release to be highest with other quarters at around half of initial demand.

From previous experience, Apples tends to underpromise and overdeliver on shipping dates. I remember preordering a 6+ and I think it said 3-4 weeks delay but I received it just Monday after release, iirc. Made me very happy.

They know how super eager people are for these new products. They tease with their big uber-produced events as the greatest things ever invented. They want us to salivate until purchase day. Apple leaves NOTHING to chance. They know exactly to the minute when items will be available to purchase months or weeks in advance, even in this pandemic. They give us this vagueness for a reason. Perhaps so we will keep on visiting the site often and purchase something else in the meantime.
Apple revealed the iMac Pro at WWDC17, but they waited until December 31st to put it on sale, so... :(

iPad Air marketing posters were up at my local Best Buy and I asked one of the reps when it will release and she said it says coming soon for them, but from Apple it says Oct. 13 or sooner. So she said it can come out any moment until then and to watch out for it. My guess is it’ll be out officially on the 13th.

It is stated "available in October"...not "sometime in October." It is now officially October. Where's the beef?
Can't tell if you're serious or not. As has been explained, "available in October" does not mean October 1st; it only means that the product will become available at some point during this month. (Assuming they don't have unexpected delays with their supply chain, which is not very likely.)

Probably not. Try not to get your hopes up every single day. It’s coming out this month for sure. Just relax. A month isn’t that long to wait. You’ll have your new iPad before you know it!
I’m actually waiting on a sale on the air 3 before it’s discontinued. So I can’t relax lol

Apple's discounts offers for students get over on October 12th, so I say iPad launches October 13.

As others have mentioned, that's only on "eligible" iPads, and that never included the Air 4, so while it might not be available before the 13th anyway, they don't need to hold it back just for that.

I think this is for Canadian customers, but it's likely the same in the States. It seems that iPad Pros are the only eligible iPads. On the (Canadian, at least) Apple site, the promotional banner for free AirPods doesn't appear if you click to purchase the new entry level iPad or the iPad Mini, on Pros.

What prevents anybody who is not a student or a member of a faculty from taking advantage of this offer. I just went from adding the iPad Pro offer to my cart and went as far as being able to checkout with either delivery or pickup. They don’t seem to check student or teacher credentials.

Bingo.

I’m a teacher so I’m actually entitled to education discounts and other such promotions, but I long ago realized that I’ve never been asked to provide any credentials.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say this week is the week, I mean they could technically hold it off until next week but then they’d be competing with the Surface Laptop Go Microsoft just announced, I’m not saying they’d have a problem competing with it, but it’s just a thought, I’d think they’d want to get it out before Microsoft gets the Laptop Go out.

There’s something in the fine print about the possibility of them asking for proof after the sale, but I’ve never heard of it happening.

Some Apple stores check if you go in person, but it’s hit or miss.

Basically honour system.

Fun fact though: Starbucks employees get better discounts than education during the year.
