I've been using the Moto X Play for about a month (upgraded from a Nexus 5, which I'd had for about two and a half years), and I'm very pleased. Great 5.5" screen, stock Android Marshmallow, microSD slot (which the Nexus does not have), and most importantly incredible battery life. I highly recommend it, very good value at £249 for 16GB and £289 for 32GB (I went with the 16GB, but bought a 32GB sandisk extreme MicroSD for £10 and combined the two for 48GB using Marshmallow's 'adoptable storage' feature).

Did you use the phone prior to turning on adoptable storage?
If so, do you notice any difference is performance after turning it on?

I think I used it briefly before turning it on. I don't notice any performance difference after turning the setting on - I think as long as you have the fastest possible SD card you shouldn't notice it, unless maybe you game a lot and store games on the card. I have also noticed that the update to Marshmallow 6.0.1 (which I received on Friday) has made a noticeable difference in performance - the phone feels snappier since.

Hi

I've been a iPhone user for long, currently using a 6 (1.5 years old), all legit NO jailbreak

Wish to explore an Android as a second phone, and later try an android watch and see how it goes

I'm a pretty basic user meaning use a phone for calls, text, browsing, you tube, whatsapp, FB, twitter, photos etc. NO GAMING, NO elaborate videos...

speed is essential. trouble free operation is essential.. (iPhone 6 gives me both very well)

Which $250 ..$300 android comes close to iPhone 6 (NOT 6s) ..wish to use it right out of the box without much tinker IF possible ...

I see some OLD threads but nothing new, clear ... so I'm here

thanks in advance
regards
subu

I don't know where you are located or which carrier you use but of all places GameStop locations that have preowned smartphones are selling the S6 for $300. You get 32gb storage and Verizon updated to Marshallow for that device.

If you have access to their stores, you can try one out with no risk for 14 days. Easy peasy

As has been mentioned by others, you can't limit your budget to $300 and expect you will get as good a camera as you'd get on an iPhone. But if you ignore the camera, you can have an excellent experience on Android for $200-$300. A phone with stock Android or close to stock Android would probably be best for you. Given it would be your second phone, I'd suggest Moto G. If you want something a bit better, but just above the top end of your budget, go for Nexus 5X.

If you must have a camera that rivals iPhone, you'll need to look into getting a used flagship from last year, e.g. Galaxy S6.

If you want to guarantee you'll stay updated to the latest version of Android in the future, your only choice is Nexus.

The Nexus 5X's camera beats the iPhone 6's though. It has the same sensor as the 6P minus EIS. Software wise, the Nexus camera is relatively minimal without much to do.

If your just looking to get you beak wet and try android out, just grab the Nexus 5. Here it is on amazon for $165 with free shipping and 32gb storage. For that price I don't think you'll be able to find a better phone. The performance for what you will use it for should be just fine.

I would recommend dropping $250 through Google Fi for the 32gb 5X since it has newer tech, especially some tech that will be standard: USB Type C, 64 bit processing, and fingerprint biometrics.
