Except I put everything, but the thing that has no validity on The Street or in the blog world. These forms seem to be the only place where people have actually embraced this crazy concept idea.

Somehow I think our blog-world has some effect, maybe small, on Apple Inc.

It's a way, along with other Apple fan sites, where Apple can get ideas for which R and D projects get money to continue. I think Apple listens to its users equally along with potential new users, but probably slightly more to potential new users as increased market share is key for Apple's long term survival.

I think the Mac updates will be more minor things and the keynote will be more about iPod touches and iPhones, not new hardware, just new firmware and new video out feature.

At this point, I am happy with even "minor" Mac stuff.

iPod and iPhone updates, if big, can make a huge difference on the bottom line. Many years ago, SJ predicted the bulk of Apple's "net" profits would come from software and hardware "other" than Macs.

His prediction has come true. Call him crazy or driven to expand beyond just computers, but nobody can call him inaccurate when it comes to predicting Apple and how people will receive new products the majority of the time.

Now if only M. Dell and B. Gates had that vision of the future? ;)

Sure it does...

I think Apple listens to its users...

If Apple listened to us, we would have had an xMac three years ago, a MacTablet two years ago, a MacBook Nano (netbook) this fall, and be expecting an iPhone nano with 100% likelihood next MacWorld.

Not to mention resolution independence, ZFS, push for iPhone, voice dialing, MMS, .Mac never leaving, and a Mighty Mouse with a multitouch top.

And they would have gone broke YEEEAARRRSSS ago.

Ever read that issue of Wired from like 10 years ago? Where they gave Apple advice on how to "survive"? Man oh man ......

Edit - I see you edited. Multi-touch mouse? Hmmmm .... I think you're onto something there.

No, no. It's just that there is a 0% chance of them coming out at MacWorld and there is a 0.0(repeatingtoalephnullminusone)1% chance of an iPhone nano. :D
Probability =--lim--1/x
---------------x -> ∞

:D

But the difference is that the MacBook Air was talked about on The Street by Jim Goldman and others. People knew a couple weeks ahead of time that it was feasible. The fact that not one of the financial networks (CNBC, Bloomberg, etc.) have talked about said device should show all these people that this device won't happen.
Good point that everyone else missed. I seem to recall them talking about the iPhone before its announcement too.

Not to mention … a Mighty Mouse with a multitouch top.
Hey! I actually want that!

:D

I just Googled "iPhone nano" and it returned 18.8 million results. Somehow I think it extends beyond Macrumors.com...

I get 21,100,000 results for "iPhone nano" (without quotes) and 23,500,000 for "iPhone nano" (with quotes). To be fair though, not all of the 23,500,000 are for the iPhone nano that is rumored for MWSF 2009. Some are about earlier iPhone nano rumors, and others are for mockups.

If I'd asked my customers what they wanted, they would have told me "a faster horse".

How many of us saw a product like the iPhone coming? How many of us saw a product like the iPod coming? Thats why we buy and they sell, they know what we want, we don't.

Hey, I purchased an iPhone to upgrade my old Moto Razr on AT&T on 12/25 and it just arrived today. With the upcoming MacWorld expo do you think I should keep my iPhone sealed and not activate it until next week?

I'm thinking the iPhone nano rumor is false (and I wouldn't be interested in a phone with less features). I just don't want them to announce something like 32gb iPhone or slimmer or a big price cut or something that I would have missed out on by just a week.

So what would your advice be - wait to open it? Open and activate it and hope they don't announce anything spectacular related to iPhone changes, or activate it and I'd still be able to return or get a price match if something changes? When they came out with the 3g or did the initial price drop on the original model, didn't they offer pricematching for people that recently bought the 2g or something? Man, I shoulda waited a week but completely forgot about MacWorld!

Well, I, personally, don't see any new iPhones at MacWorld .... but if you're not dying to use it - you may as well wait.

I don't see price cuts or 32gb units until the summer, personally. (but who knows ... maybe 32 gb in a week for all I know)

Hehe, if the iPhone nano doesn't come at MWSF, then it'll be one huge rumor FAIL. :D

The last time they did a capacity upgrade was in February 2008 or something, some time after MWSF.

Thanks. I figure once it's unshrink-wrapped I'd have to pay a 10% restocking fee right?

But what happens if I just let my iPhone sit for a week and not activate it even though I have already received the shipment? I assume they'd want to start charging me something soon or wonder why I haven't activated it.

I figure worst case scenario if they drop the price I can do a lowest price match with my credit card. If they come out with a new phone or something major, I am screwed (or I could try to do a return and buy through AT&T premier) but that would be a hassle. I was hoping that b/c Steve Jobs isn't keynote it would be nothing major but it is their last MacWorld. I bet I wouldn't be able to wait til next Friday to open it anyway haha.

Ahh I don't know what to do! I figure an iPhone nano would be sold as a lesser-featured phone than the full-size right? Hmm. If I open it today and activate it then next week they announce something great, I'd be at 14 days return policy on 1/7. I definitely wouldn't want to pay restocking fee though.

Oh that's laughable, anyone else here want to clamor for Copy & Paste or the Push Notification Server? :p  :D

I think the biggest upgrade you'll see at Macworld is a 32 GB iphone or colors, so unless either of those interest you, I would just go ahead and open it up and love your iPhone.
