In the 20+ years that Apple has been around, on Mac OS X we can customize... The color of our Close, Minimize and Maximize buttons!!!! Oh, and just to Colored or Grey! :p

I didn't know that you were still using System 6 because ever since 7 I've been able to easily change the icons and the wallpaper behind the icons. That's the level of customization that most people want.

Pff, yea. Totally. I run 6 on my new iMac. Just like TheSpaz I feel like all newer versions "stutter" when I try to do anything. ;)

But yea... Touche... You can change the wallpaper and Screen Saver quite easily. But icons, GUI elements and such are not does as simply. Not like in Ubuntu. :D

How is Ubuntu easier than copying one graphic and pasting it onto the other application?

I didn't mention deeper GUI elements because I think most people only want to change the icons and wallpaper/dock behind the icons.

I can't be the only one, surely?

1) yellowsn0w. That's it. Just allow me to use it on any network.

That said, with iphone being on 3 out of 4 of the uk providers soon, I wont have to :D

Ok, this is getting off topic, I know. But system icons in OSX are not easy to change. Like default folder icons and such. For Ubuntu you just download a theme and select it. That's all. It's way more than you can do in OSX without buying some app that allows you to theme the GUI.

More than 3.

BiteSMS
SBSettings
Cycorder
MMS for 2G iphone
Backgrounder
Kirakae
SSH
Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) Emulator :p

There'll be more that I've forgotten. I don't think I'll ever unjailbreak, there'll always be something Apple doesn't let you do, and jailbreaking's so easyyy :D

Yeah but this is not much better in Windows XP/Vista/7. You have to hack a theme.dll to use themes are are not "Microsoft Approved."

Back in the Windows 95/98 days, it was pretty easy to customize everything.

I'm not sure why Apple and Microsoft make it difficult to theme the OS. Maybe they are tired of taking tech support calls for Grandma's computer that junior haxored.

I'd be happy with SBSettings, Cycorder, BossPaper and OpenSSH. If all the capabilities of these were met in stock configuration I would have very little reason to have a jailbroken 3G iPhone.

If you're talking about a 3GS (and anything coming after that) then SBSettings, BossPaper and OpenSSH would be great! :) If I could have four then I'd throw in five icon dock.

Backgrounder and especially 3gUnrestrictor

Slingplayer and Youtube works like it's supposed to now.
I was really pissed off before, Apple were ruining MY Slingplayer and Youtube experience because of some dip***** at AT&T on a whole different continent.

Id say if we were keeping this more in the realm of possible stock software enhancements that there are a few jailbreak functions I could see coming in an x.0 software release.

- A way to quick reply to messages, be it from sms or pop notifications. Loading an app to type a one word message wasn't working for me (thanks biteSMS).

- SBSettings type toggle to change commonly accessed settings from anywhere. Again, stupid design to plunk all these items in a settings app with no possible way to toggle them outside that app.

- Lockscreen info. I honestly don't use intelliscreen or lockinfo but I can definitely see the appeal of them. Having biteSMS work from the lock screen is good enough for me.

I see those as possible, some of the more invasive JB software will never see the light of day on the non JB side of things.

I doubt we'll ever see themes. I do think more customizable options will come, maybe on how the notifications system works (ie, not while running certain apps or during certain times). I'd also like to see some enhancements to some of the stock apps like contact pictures in sms and a character counter akin to biteSMS implementation. It would also be nice if some of their other stock apps got a facelift / overhaul or at least allow us to hide the stupid things. Most of the functionality of the "widget" apps like weather and stocks can be duplicated and vastly improved upon using 3rd party software. As they are now they seem quite pathetic compared to what is in the app store.
