Nikon USA were horrible, so I typed a letter in Japanese to the company in Tokyo via snail mail.
then was offered the 10% but the corporate USA headquarters.
We have whirlpool appliance that broke (error code) after a month of use.
i guess that is the mode of the day for corporate success.

If you could go to a camera store and pick up several cameras to see which one you like that would help.
camera stores also offer their warrantees and specials and will be on your side as long as they stay open for business.
if anything goes wrong that salesperson will be more sympathetic and offer their best help.

while shopping for a windows laptop, i int to a micro center and purchased one
the people there always said hello and asked how my palmtop is.
that is the best customer service and hopefully that system will remain for ever.
Most people don't brick their cameras over a firmware update and while I know it's a very bad experience, I'd not generalize it to everyone's. I've had great support from Nikon and I've never bricked a camera from them over dozens of firmware updates and multiple camera models. Same is true for most people, I'd wager. I certainly think Nikon (or any brand) should do what's necessary to fix the problem, for sure, and obviously they didn't in your case, for which I'm sorry. It's great advice though to go and touch a camera at a local Camera store if a person has one available in their area, as you'll end up with much better service and usually someone who'll go to bat for you if there are issues.

I thought I had bricked my G9 with a FW update once. I didn’t follow the instructions of one .bin file on the card at a time when updating the lenses. It started the process and then the progress bar stopped. I waited 15 minutes and the progress bar didn’t move a pixel. With great hesitation, I turned the camera off and then back on. Luckily, everything was fine. Went to a single file on the card at a time and all was well.

Since budget is apparently a consideration here, the A7 III is also still an excellent camera choice and now with the arrival of the new A7 IV it is probably being reduced in price by camera shops or you might be able to grab a great deal on someone's gently-used one.
I love my a7iii, got a great deal on it 2 years ago. So glad I bought it when I did as I don't think I would have gotten that deal ever again.

I'm thinking of buying a new camera but not really sure which one to choose... I would use it for landscapes photography. It should be easy to go around(I like to travel light and comfortable) and get a high quality in pics.

Which camera do you use? Can you share a picture so I can get an idea of the potential?
Thanks!
Canon Powershot SX740HS.

I'll make a controversial suggestion. I think you would benefit from getting a manual camera app for your phone like Halide (if you have an iPhone) and practice with that before you invest in an expensive new tool. And when you start to feel the is holding you back and you've saved up a bit more, then consider buying a decent body and lens. And in the meantime, buy a cheap film SLR on ebay for around 50USD or your equivalent currency, and use that to refresh your trained skills.

i’m all for film photography, i got a film camera this summer, but it’s expensive and difficult to learn film right now with no immediate feedback or way to track your settings. plus you expose differently film vs digital. film development is a several week turnaround at most labs and pricey.

i recommend film for people who know how to shoot digitally already, unless they want a point and shoot.

i’d love to know where you are finding decent film cameras for $50. mine was $400.

Yes. I of course wouldn't suggest that for you since you're already an expert in all things photography and have no need for anyone else's opinions.

I agree. I only suggested it because I thought it would be familiar since OP has taken photography classes in the past and wants to take them again in the future.

How absurd! I have stated many times that I am no pro photographer! I am a amateur.

My mistake. I thought you've been a pro for 30 years because you always speak with such confidence and you won't post pictures because you're worried others will steal credit.

The best advice I've read so far. DPReview's comment sections are an experience not for the uninitiated!
I agree. Definitely do not ask in any DPReview forums what camera you should buy. Unless you like torturing yourself and being condescendingly insulted, and getting a lot of really biased bad advice. Camera gear forums are the worst. I participate in them but am very very careful exactly what I say or ask.

I use the same body. Part of me wants to leave the system and go all in on Leica, but the 55mm Zeiss is what's keeping me. Such beautiful rendering.
Sony's big problem is their glass is so expensive, but they do have a lot of third party support.

Zeiss lenses have always been expensive. Historically the progression was typically Leica, Zeiss, Schneider.

Schneider was always pretty much 4x5 and up. Still have three of them buried in storage, although the 180 Componon-S never quite lived up to its billing.
