I'm surprised your black leather is slippery. Mine actually has more grip than the Caudabe Sheath, so that (and the fact that the buttons are amazing and the bottom of the case feels better on my pinky finger) is the reason it has been my daily driver.

I’ve tried the Sheath, Apple Leather, and Mujjo, and I agree, the Apple Leather is the most comfortable on the pinky. The Sheath is okay on the pinky, and the Mujjo kills my pinky. I wish there were other leather cases that covered the whole bottom and were comfortable on the pinky, because the corners on my Apple Leather do pop off. I even exchanged, and the second one pops off too. So I glued the corners with Elmers stick glue, and a corner still popped eventually. Now I tried putting even more glue and will see how it goes.

I wouldn't put more glue onto it, just exchange until you get a Apple leather case that doesn't do the pop off thing. It seems to be a faulty batch that's producing this issue.

I have a Baltic Blue Apple Leather case for my 12 PM and it sits perfectly without any corners popping off. I bought my parents a 12 Pro each with the black Apple Leather case and they also don't have the issue on their cases.

Funny you mention the sheath. The apple silicone for me has the absolute best grip, and the sheath - no matter how many times I try it it’s a bit slippery for me. I think my hands are always dry from the cold and the hand washing that it tends to slip out of my hands. I’m wanting to try the spigen thin fit next.

I don’t believe it’s a faulty batch. I bought the two cases almost two months apart, one from online and one in store. They were manufactured in different months and in different factories. I personally believe that all or almost all cases have this issue, but that most people won’t experience it because it only seems to happen in certain pants when I put my phone in my pocket screen facing out, which is my preferred way. If I wear looser pants or put my phone in my back pocket or put my phone in my front pocket with the screen facing in, I don’t think it will happen, but I would prefer not to change how I put my phone in my pocket. If the glue doesn’t work, then I might be forced to change how I put it in my pocket though. The problem is that the cases this year are MUCH more flexible than leather cases from previous years, and there is almost zero lip wrapping around the front of the phone to hold the case on strongly. Basically the only thing holding the corners on is friction. I have yet to see leather cases that have more wrap around lip than mine on the front. If I saw that, then I would believe that mine is defective.

Just curious; what's your reasoning for pocketing with the screen facing out? Seems like a. it would be more prone to breakage were you to run into something thigh level (happens to me all the time) and b. the phone would be facing the wrong way when you reach in, grab and bring it up to use.

I pocketed my Apple leather case like every other case (top down, screen in) and never once had a corner pop out.

Way too much generalizing.

I've bought 4 Apple leather cases and none of them have the problem, so does that mean that almost all don't have problems? No - just like you can't say that all or almost all cases have the problem.

Like any manufacturing process - there are good results and bad results, especially when working with something organic like Leather. If you don't like the one you got, return or exchange it and move on with life.

I would have bought the Apple silicone case because I like most things about it - the soft silicone, how the microfiber lining covers the sides on the insides, how the speaker holes are individual tiny holes - but I just love the buttons on the the Apple leather case more. I noticed the buttons on the Apple silicone cases became a little bit harder to press starting with the X generation. The buttons on the previous generations were much more tactile.

If I remember correctly, I think you mentioned the Tech21 Evo Check is your second favorite case after the Apple silicone. Is that still true? How would you compare the size, buttons, and the pinky test between the two phones?

I gave away my silicone due to the crappy buttons.

Nice wallpaper. I use one which subtly fades to black at the top of the screen - which has the nice bonus of eliminating the notch (visually) on the homescreen.. :)

Snagged a cheap Green silicone MagSafe for the 12mini. Still not my favorite case but provides great protection and MagSafe is killer. But this color is so nice!!

Yes, pinky test is good with the Evo. The size and buttons about the same, but the Evo Check does make your phone look a tiny bit wider. Other than that, it’s a great, sturdy case.

a. I don’t run into things... like, ever. Seriously. I don’t go out of my way to be especially careful, but I guess I’m just naturally careful about where I walk. I do have very good vision, so maybe that helps. My wife runs into things a lot though, so I guess that just varies from person to person.

b. This is true, and it’s the reason I used to put my phone in my pocket screen facing in. But at some point, I came to realize that more lint and pocket dirt collected on my screen with it facing in, and that my leg, since it’s curved / convex, would rub on the screen constantly while I was walking, and I believe it was leading to tiny unexplained hairline scratches on my screen. Ever since switching my phone so that the screen points away from my leg in my pocket, I haven’t had a single unexplained hairline scratch appear on my screens.

I explained why people can have different experiences... it’s the way people put it in their pocket, and how tight and stiff their pants are. If I put it in my pocket a different way, I’m not affected either, but I don’t want to change if I don’t have to. I’m not basing my conclusions on my experience alone either. There are threads here and on Reddit dedicated to the problem, and every person I’ve seen complain about corners popping have had the same result with replacements, indicating the issue is related to that person’s usage and not a defect only present on some cases. If I saw people posting saying they had the problem with their first case, but got a replacement and all was well, I would go try a third replacement, but I haven’t seen that. I’ve only seen people post saying they tried multiple replacements and all had the issue.

Never heard of having to glue the case to the phone to get it to stay on lol

Me neither until a couple weeks ago, but I haven’t been able to find a case I really love this year, so I’m trying to fix my one issue with the one I like most. Wasn’t my idea actually... saw someone else do and suggest it in another thread.

On another note, has anyone tried a Casetify leather case? Looks pretty nice for vegan leather, and I like that it has a closed bottom, unlike most leather cases, but dang is it expensive. I’m mainly curious how grip and durability / wear are.

I have tried:
Apple leather
Apple siicone
Ob symmetry
Ob Aneu
Uag Civillian
Ringke fusion x cameo
Caudabe Sheath

All returned or sold except the Sheath, but have Settled on the Nomad Rugged Black lol. Love it.

Why?

Excellent fit no sag all around, doesn’t pull away from the phone easily
Real leather back, oh the smell lol, smooth and not sticky like Apples
Wet hands no probs, also good grip on the sides
Buttons are good but not as good as Apples but not mushy like some
Feels solid and good protection for a leather case

Nomad Rugged black. Can't fault it best case i have tried so far, great fit all round, no sag, buttons are ok not worthy of the razor blade mod.
Good grip on the sides.
Glad to be back in a leather case with some protection.
Makes my poor old Sheath seem cheap.
My last nomad was for the XR.

Mine has a minor fitting issue at the top ....leaves the Front metal frame exposed for half a millimeter in a sort of bow....

I’ve had two Nomad Rugged cases and both had this as well. It’s minor and I like the case enough to overlook it, but I still wish it was something they’d fix.

I had a black nomad rugged case for my mini. I loved the leather, the fit, and the materials. But there was a long ridge where the leather met the bumper under then power button and it ended up being too uncomfortable to grip after a couple of minutes. I tried loving it but decided to ultimately return it. Love their AirPods Pro case though.
