Phil Schiller got my vote, as I believe he would be the best to run the company in the current state. He appear to have more know-how and insight than the rest of them up there.

Yes, Craig is the best presenter, but that does not mean he fits the bill (Schiller is also good though; Cook is absolutely horrible on a stage - He should do a presentation with Nintendo and it would be the most hilariously bad thing in this century).

Honorable mention: Angela Ahrendts. I think she could do some very good things for the company since she's so consumer minded, but of course, she's not CEO material in this case. I do feel she should have more say in the company currently though, given the clear consumer-antagonistic way Cook is currently running it.
I would agree, as soon as I saw the topic title, I said Phil in my mind. I have always liked Phil and he has definitely shown that he is rather intelligent and would probably fit the bill the best.

Definitely would love to see Scott Forstall back at Apple, though I get the impression that he doesn't want to be.

Craig is an awesome awesome person, but he has no place running a business

Sounds like something someone would have said about Jobs, back in the day.

My first choice would be Forstall (maybe he can do what Jobs did when he returned to Apple and bring back the passion?).

But I voted for the HairForce. Although, i must say, he might be best suited for his current role. (His personality could be quite different were he running the company, etc... not to mention the skillset required).

Serious question...what signifcant accomplishment or contribution has Angela made since joining Apple?

Apple's CFO should lead Apple
Apple's CLO should lead Apple

None.

There is no one in the C suite that is competent to be the CEO (and that includes the current CEO).

The next CEO needs to be a product - not numbers - visionary. Apple's lineup, across the board, is stale and unimaginative. That's what happens when the COO takes over a product-based company.

The chances of it happening, of course, are exactly zero - the kind of person who could do it is probably stuck somewhere in low level VP or "senior director" hell, and Apple's board has shown zero courage, so the odds of Apple placing someone at the top who could actually reboot the company are non-existent.

In that alternate timeline, Forstall would have fired Cook for some product rollout that was bad.
Well if you're saying Forstall was only fired for one mess up, actually other execs didn't like too, in a way it was personal. And Forstall wouldn't apologize for Maps too.

Maybe that's not what you're saying, but if so there's a response. Also above is not a personal comment on whether it was right or wrong, but that's what happened.
