it is a little paradoxical here seeing how many people bash dell, then buy the displays
Yes DELL computers and win 7 are good. I like the mac os better, and ACD better. But they are also more expensive.
I use samsung monitors on my apple and ACD. I use dell displays on my dell.

8 core MP: 30" ACD, 30" Dell screen and 2 x 23" Acer W31... not sure :D
Quad MP: 2 x 30" ACD and a BenQ V2420

27" Led Cinema Display.

Also have a 20" A1081 CInema display, but it is losing its brightness badly, so doesn't get used anymore. :(

30" Apple Cinema in the middle.
On my right: 23" ACD
On my left: 24" Samsung

I love 3 monitors and all the screen real estate. I hate the lack of symmetry...and the lack of current technology.

I want to upgrade but I keep waiting because I'd like to buy matching units.

Been using 30" Cinema Display since 2006 when I got my G5 Quad. A new MacPro is arriving on Wednesday (yes one that I can run Snow on and use PPC) and will continue using it. I checked out the 27" and it appears to be a little sharper but the glass panel is just too reflective. I'm sticking with my 30".

Have 2 HP LP3475W IPS models and they work great. No issues since I bought them. Now looking to add 3rd screen.

1) Eizo FlexScan S2410W
2) It's a bulky hot-running beast -- but it is stable, has a great color gamut, and is built like a tank. Got it on the cheap from someone who either didn't know what they were selling, or needed cash fast. Looking for another, if I can find one at a similarly low price.

Spidey!!!

Home:
2x Dell U2410

Office:
2x Dell E207WFP flanking...
1x Acer X233H

The U2410s were purchased to replace the E207WFPs at home as the E207WFPs were both failing with bad backlight banding.

The U2410s have been having image persistence issues. One of them is worse than the other - the unfortunate result of working in a spreadsheet for roughly a week. I've run the Apple 'make your screensaver white' method most of the weekend, run them through several heat/cool down cycles, and they'll be running the bult-in Dell utility (cycles all colors repeatedly) for about 9 hours today.

And yes... there's a screensaver set (Arabesque) so I'm not sure why several hours a day of spreadsheet has overridden most of the day with a screensaver running.

Honestly, the cheap Acer X233H I bought for the office is the best looking to my eyes although I spend most of my days with it in email or a shell.

No. Dell computers are crap. Dell uses the same panel's in some of their high end displays as Apple. Some of their displays are excellent. They also have terrible display's.

Dell Ultrasharp 24"
  • 16x10 ratio with 1920x1200, not the 16x9 1080P "HD" nonsense that most new monitors are
  • Matte screen
  • Many inputs
  • Built-in USB hub
  • Built-in memory card reader
  • Can rotate to portrait, tilt up/down, swivel left/right, raise, and lower
  • Tunnel in back to route and hide cables

Why anyone would spend more to get an ACD, I have no idea. Maybe they like seeing the reflection of their face on the glossy screen that they cannot adjust. ;)

+1

I like this monitor too. Good price, IPS, 1920 x 1200, non-glossy panel/bezel, adjustable, standard gamut (easy to calibrate), multiple inputs w USB hub. The downside: no HDMI, mediocre blacks.

Yeah, i've come from a 16:9 monitor and i'm surprised at how much I prefer 16:10. DisplayPort too :)

27" ACD. Love it and would have an incredibly hard time switching to anything else. Sure is pricey at $1000 though.

Dell machines are a bit ****, as are much of their monitor lineup. The Ultrasharp line is on par with an ACD however, and matte. They are however, no cheaper than an ACD, save where there's a smaller size to buy in the Dell lineup.

1) Asus PA246q, 24", 1920x1200, wide color gamut, ~$500

2) the first one from Amazon was DOA, they shipped me another one, 1 day air (To AK), paid for shipping for the DOA monitor and shipping for the new one.

The second one is perfect! I love it. A spyder3 pro helped me get the most out of the color gamut for photography. IMO Aside from the NEC models that are 2x the price this is the best 16:10 24" IPS monitor available!

I like Dell Ultrasharp displays because they like Apple displays except they offer them with:
1) Antiglare finish
2) Every input imaginable by sane man
3) Plain, yet sleek looking finish

Anyways I currently sport a Dell 30" 3008WFP with 2x Dell 20" 2001FP (rotated 90°); right now one of the 20" monitors are about to bite the dust, so I'll most likely pick up two more Dell 30" monitors.

I use x2 HP2229h 22" and im very happy with them. And they were only £159 each! And that price included the DVI leads.

They rotate into a portrait format which is great for photographic work too.

They are not 100% as good as Apple ACD's but its pretty close.
