When they came out, each design was exciting, modern, and looked great. But designs get old, and something new is considered "modern". I voted new because that's what looks great to me right now. I must say though, the "dancing mac" still looks great, white or not.

I don't mean the material, I mean the appearance.

Splitting hairs a little aren't you (and possibly not making any sense)?

Listen, when it comes down to it what do you spend most of your time looking at? The case or whats on the screen? I find OS X not looking any different so I don't particularly take a huge stance on the "appearance".

generally, way prefer the aluminum to the old plastic and fruit colors.

but can't stand the black frame.
or glossy screens

and why in the world would you make a 'full-size' wireless keyboard without a 10-key?

and whatever happened to the good ole 'rainbow' apple logo? :D

Dont get me wrong, i love the mac pro design and some of the aluminium stuff, but...

One of the other posts on this forum asked "what is the greatest mac?" and the most picked tended to be the g4 iMac, g4 Cube and the 12" powerbook, all from the same "era" of design.

Well, I really do love the new iMacs (I'm biased, I have one and it's my baby). For the most part I like the iPhone, but I preferred the design of the first gen, but I don't like the chrome. As for the MB & MBP, I don't like the black bezel on them, IMO it looks like s**t, but I still do like it more then the old MB.

I have the Unibody 15", and I while I think the design is good, I can't say this is Apple's best design. The black keyboard isn't that great looking, I'm alright with the black display bezel though

I'm especially turned off by the black plastic display hinge. Of all places, they picked the hinge as the only plastic part of the body .Yes I know the AirPort antenna is there, but why isn't it up there with the bluetooth receiver [Which is next to the iSight] is beyond me. The PowerBooks had the right idea with their antennas high up in the display.

My old PowerBook 17" was pretty awesome.

I think the new alluminum and black look is much better than the last generation white. The previous generation with the g4 cube and g4 iMac was potentially the best. And as for the new notebooks the 17 without the glassy display is probably my favorite because it removes all of the black.

I like the new look much more, the older look wasn't very professional, it looked like it belonged in a kindergarten class.. Imo the new look is a huge improvement.

I think the old plastic & white looked a bit Playschool-ish.

I like the industrial brushed metal look they have now - but I'm biased since that's the first style I owned anyway.

Prefer the older all aluminium MBPs - they look so much nicer although I must say that I'm pleased that the plastic Macbooks for the most part have been updated to all metal..

I think the fruit colors made Apple very, very unique, which I think is cool.

I have an iBook G3 (not clamshell) and I really like the ultra-clean look of the white design. I also like the all-silver previous generation MacBook Pros and PowerBooks.

For the unibodies, I think that they had to make the display bezel black because of the edge-to-edge glass display. Because of that, they had to make the keyboard black to match, or else the display and the rest of the laptop might look like it wasn't meant to go together. All black display and an all silver body? Maybe someone can photoshop that to see how it would actually look.

I think the unique-ness of the iMac G4 (flowerpot) was ultra cool. When you have the G4 Cube set up with the matching Cinema Display, Pro keyboard and Pro mouse, it looks really nice (I've only seen pictures). The iMac G3's back really does look better than the front of the PCs of that era, doesn't it? :D

So, I think Apple design did a pretty good job on most of their products. :apple:

i miss the sunflower iMac!! the iMac G5 design was not as much a step up from the G4 as the G3->G4

omg i can not stand the white plastic.

Honestly from asthetics stand point:
Alum imac > Gateway all in one > white imac.

idk i just dont like the white plastic. and the new macbooks are the most beautiful laptops made.. period.

The plastic look is outdated. It used to be unique and fresh, but now i look at it as a more childish - less solid design.

The aluminum unibody is just genius. I used to have a plastic HP computer, which looked gorgeous the first week - then it was all scraped up and covered with fingermarks. The aluminum still looks brand new.
