Navigon just announced that they submitted v1.4 to Apple. Key features include Google search for local POIs (thank God!) as well as entering coordinates. Can't wait!

That is awesome!! The search has been broken from the start.

But, why do they remain so silent about the infamous Route List of Directions?

Tom Tom, I have a 3G, and first purchased Navigon when it was released. Terribly slow, crashes, freezes...not usable on a 3G. My friend tells me it runs much smoother on his 3GS. I bought the Tom Tom app this past weekend with the sale they had, love it! Just works so much better on my 3G. Loads quick, runs almost as smooth as my PND Tom Tom. I like the Tom Tom app better simply because it works on my phone. The 3G just doesn't have enough under the hood to run Navigon apparently.

I haven't tried Tom Tom but Navigon is very very very slow on my 3G. Everything from start-up time to re-routing to latency on how long it takes for the program to respond to touch commands is very laggy.

Upgraded to 3GS a couple days ago ... Navigon now performs like a dedicated GPS - faster, smoother, more precise ... on par w/ my wife's Garmin Nuvi in boot up, routing decisions, etc ...

When I was using my 3G, it was a bit slow but I was still satisfied - it worked just fine.

I'm a huge Navigon fan. I sold my old TomTom 930T for a Navigon 8100T. That being said, I only have an iPhone 3G on which the Navigon application is just too laggy 90% of the time.

Once you have a destination entered it works just fine (provided you don't have music playing). However, trying to enter an address or do a POI search often results in long hangups etc. Simply typing in a street address should not take 1-2 min of waiting for the interface to catch up.

I prefer the TomTom app in general because it is quite fast on the 3G and has the route avoidance feature I can't live without. Now if only TomTom would get off their lazy duff and add in the Traffic feature which they've had on even their lowest end PNDs for years.

I own both Navigon and Tom Tom and would have to give my salute to Navigon for the navigation piece of it. Tom Tom doesn't have some updated maps with routes that I take to avoid busy intersections and at times Tom Tom would toss my arrow in a field; way off the road. Whereas Navigon keeps on track and does have some of the shortcuts I take.

One main thing I do like about Tom Tom are the buttons, for example Navigate to, POI, etc.. If I need to make a quick change in my route its way easier to do in Tom Tom then Navigon while driving.

Thats my quick review. I've been tempted to buy Magellen to see how that works but I'll wait for Navigon 1.4 to be released to the US.

This is difficult. I own both and the TTS and directions from Navigon are outstanding. The problem I have with Navigon is that it is extremely slow and the routes are horrible.

TomTom has by far the better routes and UI, but they need to fix their Turn by turn directions. If they could use feet instead of yards, and announce the street name farther away from your turn, TomTom would be perfect.

I am always surprised that people have purchased Tom Tom and Navigon, guess they have money to burn.

I use Navigon and I've been very pleased. My only complaint is the lack of documentation.

I'd really like to update this poll to add Navigon v1.4. When the heck will it be out (in the USA) already!?!?!?!

pls do, s/b interesting ... what else is interesting, is that TomTom's holiday strategy is to compress prices and grab customers ... most likely so that after the holidays they can announce their TomTom Live Services offerings; traffic, google search, fuel, etc oh yeah, and charge $9.99/mo like they do for the rest of their devices ... while Navigon is continuing to improve and enhance their app, free google search, and fixed, low cost traffic ... s/b interesting.
