do you have any experience with items from the apple refurb store?

I don't have any personal experience since we have no refurbs in Finland but I've only heard positive things about them. Basically you get a new Mac for less $

OP, if you're going to go with the low-end model that's $1,199, wait until Black Friday. I just bought one of those a week ago and then a few days later discovered Best Buy's Black Friday deals -- where I bought the darn thing. The computer will still be $1,199, but you can get a $125 gift card with it. When I saw that, I said some very bad words. With that gift card I could've bought an Apple TV and had money left over. I could've bought five or so Blu-ray disc movies. I console myself by the fact that my old computer was dead and I don't know if I would've waited a few weeks, nor do I know how quickly those will go and if I would have to stand in line for a few hours, but DAMMIT.

If you're asking about refurbs, my original iPhone was a refurb, albeit from AT&T. Came in flawless and saved me $150. My uncle bought a refurb iMac and hasn't had any issues with it. I would've gone that way with this computer to either get a better model for the same price or to save about $150 on the same computer. But Best Buy offers 24 months same as cash, I already have a Best Buy credit card, and I didn't have to wait a few days. So in my situation, I probably got the best deal I could. In yours, just use the good opinions I see on here and decide for yourself. I would recommend the new i3 or i5 processors because of the considerable speed boost over the C2D in a benchmark I saw at Macworld.

good to know..i want to sell my Windows Desktop (built it in April, stupid me..have since used Macs and hate Windows as a result) and use that $ to buy an iMac..still, I don't know how well spending $1500ish on a refurb machine would sit with me, although it may be perfect haha.

The $1,199 is for the low-end 21.5" Display machine, so not that great of a deal. Apple controls their prices pretty well, so I don't think you will find a great deal from a big box store.

This was one of my biggest concerns, was the refurb questioned, but it seems like everyone I talk to say that they basically got a new item. The refurbs are great deals and compete with everything I can find elsewhere, the only problem is that you have to pay sales tax from Apple and some of the online resellers, you don't.

Refurbs from Apple are just fine. I have two of them and I've had no problems. I highly recommend them. And, you save a little bit on the price. So happy with my purchases.
