I tried price matching the 10.5 256GB and was turned down because the sale at Micro Center was a "special event." Anyway around this problem?

I did not get hassled. When I called they said they will confirm it on their end and a few minutes later she gave me my final price.

I would say choose the 9.7 I have a 10.5 and broke the glass and apple wants an arm and a leg to fix it and found no third part apple repair shops offer any repair service for the 10.5

iPad Pro 9.7 also costs an arm and a leg to fix. Guess that's the cost of Apple Pencil support.

The 2017 iPad 9.7 is much cheaper to fix.

Any ipad would cost an arm and a leg to fix if your only option is apple. But with the 9.7 you at least have third party repair shop options that are almost always much cheaper then apple.

The regular iPad, the replacement LCD costs $50, iirc. The Pro 9.7, it's $300. Apple OOW fee is $380 so honestly, at that price I'd rather pony up the extra $80 to get Apple to fix/replace it.
