Forget all this other junk. Your needs are so simple that you're thinking about this too hard. You're also not going to be using it for a long time.

Any iBook will do what you want, even if its a 12" iBook G3 800 MHz or something. If you want a 12" G4 iBook, get an 800 MHz, as it's probably more tolerable. All this stuff about superdrives, Core Image, screen size, etc...... isn't an issue. Unless you have poor sight, you'll be able to see things on a 12" screen just fine. The text on the 12" screen may actually be larger than it is on a 15" PB because of the difference in resolution, and people seem to be fine using either machine, so don't worry.

There's no such thing as a 12" 667 MHz PowerBook. The slowest 12" PB ever was an 867 MHz G4.

Get an iBook over an older PB for your needs because the iBook has better battery life and better wireless reception. Don't worry about CPU speed as long as it's a G4 and faster than 800MHz. If you can get an 800 MHz iBook G4, then get it. Otherwise, a G3 iBook isn't horrible for what you want to do.
Even though I said a new one would probably change your mind and I garunteed you'd love it and that you wouldn't give it up or that, I have to agree with Abstract - for basic WP and Email a G3 800 would suit you just fine or a lower processor speed G4.

You can get the 12" ibook 1.33 GHz model for $799US at the refurb store. 512 MB RAM, combo drive AP and BT, scrolling trackpad and the improve 9550 GPU card.
exactly the same as the new ones for $200 less.

The one I just received is absolutely perfect and it came with the 60 GB HD upgrade free.

If you have a G5, keep in mind that the iBook above also comes with Tiger so all you data and applications will be fully compatible.

As I stated in another thread, the 12" screen size is fine when you have it in front of you at a comfortable typing distance.

You alsready have a G5, so this would make the ultimate affordable portable without any sacrifice.

You presume correctly. Mine (early 2005) does not support Core Image and did not ship with Tiger, but the new ones (late 2005) do.

Boy that was a good deal! No 1.33 GHz 12" iBooks there now, only 1.2GHz.

Lol I read the Core-Image support in your one thing, and I had just got off another thread that said it wasn't supported cause of a guide on this forum

I showed this one ( for may daughter) to a co-worker and he was so impressed that he ordered one 15 minutes later for his wife.

You have to keep watching the refurb pages and check with store managers too.

Good deals sell out quickly, but more usually show up in a few days.

When we went down to CompUSA and purchased my iBook, we got $50 instantly off AppleCare. My sister got free caps w/her iPod shuffle.
