Where I am
Which Late 2015 iMac do you own?
- a 1TB fusion drive unit
- a 2TB fusion drive unit

Curious what model everyone has.

LOL - a 1TB Fusion Drive Late 2015. I'm currently performing a search for the size of the OS installed and a few apps. If it is much less than 24GB, I'll keep it. If it is high, then I'll trade up to the 2TB, or maybe, just maybe order a special configuration from Apple with a 512GB SSD.

I bought my initial iMac from Best Buy.

What model do you own, now that we have divulged our secrets?

Bear in mind that it isn't just the size of apps that affect speed but also content. If you're regularly using or working on large files, then the 24GB drive will get full up quicker and then have to resort to the hard drive.

...thanks for the info. I'm not a video or photo editor. Mainly I use my units for browsing the Internet, reviewing documents and using RDP to connect to Windows Servers.

I have the M395 iMac model, that has the 2TB Fusion drive. ITs bee the best computer I've owned, fast, spacious and a gorgeous display.

I have only had my 27" iMac with same graphics for a few weeks, but it's a joy.

Coming from a 2008 iMac with 4GB RAM, perhaps not too surprising. Lol

Full details in the signature below.

This is my 4th Mac (LC 475, G4, Mid 2007 20" iMac) over a 25yr career in the graphics industry and by far the highest specced machine I've ever owned.

I expect a good 8 - 10 years out of this bad boy!

If you can swing it price wise and have other external storage, I would get the 512SSD. Those are my plans anyway. Not sure other specs would impact me the way I use the computer.

I have a 1Tb FD (24Gb SSD).
It's working surprising well. You hit the HDD a bit more often than with the 128Gb SSD, but it's fast enough for 95% of my tasks.
It's a lot lot lot faster than 1TB HDD

Nice! That Dell is connected using what type of connection? Thanks

Edit: I just looked at the price for the Dell 27" UP2715k, is isn't bloody cheap! I'm wondering it I would be better off getting a Thunderbolt monitor...

i got the stock M395 version, so 2TB Fusion drive. still working on getting everything setup. i did split the 2TB into 1.11TB (OS) and a 1TB partition for some files. i still haven't figured out exactly which files will live where yet. i'm coming from a 500GB (split 256/256) internal and a 1TB external setup. everything could fit on the 2TB internal drive now, but after going through a HDD crash, i'm not all that keen on dumping everything to one drive.

Did you ever consider splitting the fusion drive?

I did so and I got way better speed increases than even I predicted.

However, I do not use Windows, so that may be a consideration.

But you'll get SSD speeds.

27" i7 3.4GHz 32GB RAM 128/3TB Fusion - Late 2012*!

Can't say for sure how many Macs i've owned - maybe 20-25-30.... starting with an Apple IIe around 1984. I have 3 in the house right now.

*To be fair, I am thinking about going to a late 2015 model - but the specs are similar at first glance, no?

I'm one of those poor suckers who bought the low end 27 inch with the 1TB fusion drive. So far it's a very speedy machine and the display is amazing. Not sure why people seem to think this model sucks. Whatever :).
