I'm planning to get the 1.86 gHz MBA witht he SSD. :) Although, I am still debating if the SSD is worth the extra money.

Two Questions:

1. What are the rest of you getting?

2. How long do you expect your MBA to last you?

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

1) I am planning to purchase a 1.6 GHZ without SSD around December/January.

2) I don't know how long it will last me. I've had my Gateway laptop for two years and I can't stand it. I'm hoping the Air will give me much satisfaction and pleasure to keep it more than 2 years. :)

Well I'm hoping to upgrade to 1.86 gHz MBA but without SSD 'cause I don't think it's worth the price. I'm using 1.6ghz first gen right now and It works just fine. So a little CPU speed bump would be nice but I don't think I need the SSD considering the price I will have to pay for it.

Or else I'll be eating instant noodles for quite awhile!!! :(

If it's quiet now because of the GPU and the 45nm CPU, I'm getting the base 1.6/120 that I've wanted since last March!

High end model with SSD to replace my first generation Air with SSD.

I expect it to last until the next cool product that Apple releases. Yes, I know I have a problem.

I also have the 64 SSD, and I'm also going to get the 128 GB model.
Maybe we should be going to macholics anonymous.

for those of you who've had the 64GB SSD MBA. Could you feel the difference, or benefit in using the SSD?

I'm getting the 1.8 + SSD to upgrade my existing 1.6 + HDD. I'm hoping that the SSD makes it fast enough to use as my all the time machine. Sadly, I need to run Windows at work, so I'll install Fusion and run it virtually.

Well I have the 1.8 ghz now so I don't think I'll upgrade.

If I was buying one now for the first time I would get the 1.86 ghz with the SSD.

SSD Benefit I liked the most

for those of you who've had the 64GB SSD MBA. Could you feel the difference, or benefit in using the SSD?

Was the utter peace and quiet, no disk noise is probably the most satisfying unexpected aspect of the SSD for me. It's very expensive, but for a professional that spends 10 hours a day with my computer, the absolute silence is very welcome.

Most likely the 1.86Ghz with SSD. Hopefully apple has resolved the other issues in the first generation.

I'm going for the 1.86/SSD model. Hope to wrangle a family & friends discount to help on the price a bit - I can't wait! :D

Low end one

Lots of people are getting high end model this time.

For the first generation, many bought 1.6 / 80. I don't understand

why high end are booming in this gen.

Iam still getting 120gb one with 1.6ghz cuz it's still portable.

I'll definitely be getting the 1.86GHz/128GB SSD (in fact, I've already ordered it). I previously had a CTO 1.8GHz/80GB PATA Air and, while it performed reasonably well, as soon as the hard drive IO became intensive, everything slowed down despite the CPU usage being very low. The bottleneck was actually reading/writing data from/to the hard drive.

This time around, I'm going all-out and I expect it to last me a long time.

Thanks all - now changed to SSD

I had ordered a 1.6GHz with 120GB HDD, but reading what all you experienced 1st generation owners have bought, I've cancelled that order.

So now I've ordered 1.6GHz with 128GB SSD.

I just hope that I've not wasted money and there is no fan noise, so that the extra cost buys not just smooth operation, but also total silence during low intensity work like Xcode editing.

I would say that it run's cooler with the SSD. But the only thing I have to base that on is the fact that I don't have the problems with heat that some many post about.

I'm going for the base model and will upgrade to the 128gb ssd when the prices slide down more.
I'll be trading out my mbp for one. I just built a gaming rig with osx so that's got all the power I need.

I have the base model 1st gen MBA. I'm not upgrading yet though. The small upgrade is nice but I don't think it's worth it to buy another one yet. I will probably consider buying one when the SSD version is even cheaper, speed bump (2.0 Ghz and more) and the RAM is up to 4 GB instead of 2. Maybe that will happen in about a year.:p

It's because Apple cut the price by like $600 that everyone is now springing for the better MBA.
