The new design does look really good in midnight in a way I don't feel the older design would have, for silver/ space grey it's a bit of a tossup, maybe lean towards the sharper older design in the lighter colours.

Wedge. I wish they just lost the bezel (I don't mind the notch), improved the camera, and moved the speakers. I loved the idea of the new design when it looked like a completely new design (I liked the iMac colours and a white keyboard). Having said that, Apple's laptops, except the randomness of the 13" Macbook "Pro" now have coherent design language that stands out again, after countless PC manufacturers just so happened to make their laptops wedge-shaped. I'm just not a fan of that design language. I'm sure I'd learn to love it if someone offered me a loaded 14" for €1000, though.

The new design because it is better for thermals and battery size. The old design is all Ive smoke and mirrors. Appearing thinner but with loss of internal volume.

And there is the problem. Jony Ive was about aesthetics and that gave us underperforming computers. In design you can never separate form from function. If you do you are making an abomination. So the original post is flawed!

I don’t disagree with you, but I think it’s fair to ask just about how you think something looks with no other considerations.

Despite the limitations of the wedge shape we’ve had some really damned good machines, including the M1 MBA.

Not all designs need to optimize for the absolute best in thermals or other considerations.
Sometimes aesthetics can be number one..

I know several CEOs who have always chosen the MBA because it’s thin and beautiful and attractive.

As long as battery life has been good enough for them, which is basically all of the MBA models to date, aesthetics were all they cared about.

I don't mind the wedge, but I really like the new thin MBP-inspired design. I don't mind a product called the Air chasing after thinness, especially in the Apple Silicon era where that doesn't mean it gets hot as **** with crappy battery life.

Sorry, I cannot think about just looks. I have to use the damn thing so I will think about functionality. I am not a dreamer but a pragmatic person. I want something that works well first and also looks good. If it just looks good it is not enough!

Different things are important to different buyers, no question

Keep in mind that is why we have different models though.

It’s a product line failure if too many different products are optimizing for the same variables

the bottom pads make the new macbooks look like an old chair

and to answer you question, wedge.although idc about look at all,and i'd rather have something practical...which ,condidentally, appears to be the wedge design as well.for typing that thing is a dream
I have a new MBP that essentially has the same cross profile as the new Air but thicker, from what I can tell by the pictures.

I agree, it doesn't look good from the side in a picture. But that changes quickly when seen in person. Especially since we mostly view it from an angle downward. Even when looking at it directly from the side, there is a shading that is lost in the pictures, plus the feet are not as pronounced. I was skeptical until I saw the MBP in person. It looks very good.
