If the Mac Book came with a 17" screen, I would have been more interested in it..

Man.. Now you guys have me thinking.. It's just two months (at most?) until these news Mac Book Pros are available.. Maybe I should just be patient for once in my life...

I'm waiting for Jan for sure. Who knows, the default hard drive size may be increased too and then you may not need to upgrade that. :D

I feel a redesign

I'm in the same boat and waiting until January -- and it kills me to do so. Fortunately my old computer can tie me over until then so it isn't necessary for work.

But I feel a MBP redesign coming on. The MBP has been in its current incarnation longer than any other design of the current Macs. I just can't see Apple not coming up with something new, and with Penryn supposedly around the corner, it seems like I a good time to make a splash.

First, I think Apple wants to put their new "chiclet" style keyboard on all their computers. At the very least the new MBP will probably have the new F key functions (though what would happen to the backlighting F keys? Maybe the keyboard backlighting would be discontinued with the new keyboard, which would be a major bummer).

Second I think the redesign will bring the hard drive to a place where it can be easily accessed like the current MacBooks.

Finally, the redesigned MBPs might even get a black two-tone finish of some sort like the iMacs (but that I am much less sure of).

Anyway, if I didn't think there was a redesign coming, I wouldn't wait. Sure Penryn will be nice, but damn, these processors already do more than I need. It's the updated video card and form factor I'm holding out for.

I hope I don't wait for nothing.

Screw it. I'm not waiting. I'm buying my MBP as soon as I can. I'll probably replace it with a newer model in 2 years anyway. I seem to get the itch for a new computer every couple of years. I doubt the changes will be all that dramatic - and for me, the Mac will be a tremendous upgrade anyway. So, no waiting for me. :p

Well, I just thought I'd write to say that I'm on my new MBP right now. Very cool. I purchased a keyboard and mighty mouse to go along with it. I upgraded to Leopard. I downloaded and installed a bunch of software. I even connected to my company VPN with the Mac version of Cisco's VPN client. So, so far, so good! This is a real high quality computer! The experience has been above expectations so far. The Mac makes for a much better personal experience than a PC... :)

Congrats on the new machine Sal!! Enjoy it! (like I need to tell you that... :p)
