Have you considered replacing the MBP15 with an IPP/desktop combination or is that not an option? Perhaps even an IPad/MBA.

Maybe you need the processing power of the MBP. I don’t for my needs and what I slowly realized is that in terms of screen real estate even a 15” isn’t enough. For editing nothing beats a 24” external with my laptop being used on the side as a second mini display. So I decided to switch out my laptop to an iPad Pro for mobile work and go with a desktop for home sessions. I’ve actually started enjoying sitting at my desk and working these days.

I have the current IPP 12.9 and do in fact use it with an Apple BT external keyboard, which works nicely but I do not consider it a replacement for any Mac...... It also serves nicely as an adjunct extra screen when I'm using my current 15" MBP. This really makes a great combination!

Some time ago I had an iMac and while that is a lovely machine it really does not serve my current needs in the same way that a notebook/laptop does. I have pretty much ruled out iMacs from consideration and again am aiming for the fluidity and flexibility that comes with a MBP.

That said, to reiterate, I do need and will continue to need the macOS as well as iOS for what I do, especially now that I am finally getting back into photography after a hiatus of some years. And, no, I am not interested in the MBA, I need more power than the current one provides (not to mention the retina screen!) and am not really interested in whatever the next iteration of it will be, as I can pretty well guess that it will be stunted in sone way. No, I am definitely aiming for one of the 2018 MBPs, waiting for the dust to settle a little before I take the plunge......

For portability when traveling I do have the 2017 MacBook, and that machine serves really well in that role! I am looking at replacing my current 2015 MBP with the 2018 MBP and as I have been doing with the current machine, using her as a sort of "desktop replacement" with all the benefits of the flexibility that comes with a laptop machine. Put the thing on a stand, add a BT mouse and a BT keyboard and there we go...... Any problems arise, it's a whole lot easier to take an MBP over to the Genius Bar than it is an iMac or Mac Pro! (Been there, done that in years past.)

My iOS devices and my OS devices so far have worked together quite companionably in this household and I am sure that when I do get around to introducing a new 2018 MBP member to the family, she will fit in quite nicely as well..... :)

I have been a 12.9" user since day one, and while it mostly love it there are enough times where it feels too large.

The 10.5" was progress, so if that becomes an 11" machine I probably will try that first.

A smaller bezel but same sized screen for the 12.9" is also enticing since the form factor would decrease a bit.

We shall see, but I most likely will grab the 11" model.
I feel the same.

Nice setup. The right tools for the right task. There’s really no one size fits all in tech. Both in terms of actual devices and then individual user needs. It’s all so personal.

I spend time during the day and evening on my MBP or my MacBook, but when I want to look up something, rather than interrupt the page I'm on and/or the reply I am in the midst of making, it is so handy to reach over to the iPad Pro 12.9 or the iPad 10.5 and type in the request and get the answer there, which I can then put into my post or email that I'm writing....

In the mornings, very often I am not quite ready to get up for the day but I don't have to do so -- I can grab an iPad and while still comfortably situated in bed catch up with my forums and email..... can't beat that for convenience!

Headed off to visit a friend or even just to go to the mall, tucking an iPad into my bag makes everything easy, too, as far as communication along the way......I find the iPad easier to type on than my iPhone X, especially if i have more than just a sentence or two to convey..... Reading forum posts is easier on an iPad, too, because of the difference between the formatting for the iPhone and the iPad..... This makes everything so much easier for me when trying follow, read and respond to forum posts on the iPad as opposed to the iPhone.

I love my iPhone and iPads and iOS, but truly, for me they are not the same as using an actual computer with macOS........

Probably the 11” ipad pro to replace my beloved but dying ipad mini 2. Even tho i love the mini form factor for travel, I want & need the power of a pro. However, if Apple does update the ipad mini with an a10, i will get that for travel, and the 12.9” for art work.

If this image holds true which size Ipad pro will you be getting? What Storage option?
Curious to hear where most of you will be leaning.
I know they're just mock ups, but I must say those do look lovely!

Even with the little bezels, I think 12.9 would still be a bit large for me, so I'll probably go for 11. Storage - 128 isn't enough so 256, unless that isn't an option (or I have a 'what the heck' moment when I come to buy - quite likely!)

I haven't had an iPad for a few years and I'm excited to get one again, especially as it seems like it should be much better for light, on-the-go work now, as well as being great for the stuff it was good for when I had my iPad 3 - movies, TV, web and the like.

My one and only iPad was the mini 2(?). Pre retina. I got in November 2012. Loved the thing to bits. Pretty excited to get back to the iPad world again especially now that it’s a viable laptop replacement for my needs.

I *thought* I was sold on the 12.9 but reading this thread and seeing the pics I’m again vacillating between the two.

There’s something to be said about a small powerful device. Loved the mba 11 way more than the 13. Guess I’ll have to wait to see what the final sizes are and then lean on you guys before I pull the trigger. Won’t have a chance to try them in person so it’s a blind purchase and at these prices I better be darn sure of my decision
