True they have done it before. When the iPad 4th gen came out they scrapped the 3rd gen and kept the 2nd gen, but the iPad 2nd Gen was only about 1.5 years old, and the 3rd Gen was kind of a misfit.

The iPad Air 2 will be 2.5 years old if we are talking about a spring release. Then to keep selling that for another year or more, I don't think Apple will do that.

The Air 2 is still a remarkably good tablet though. In fact, all things considered, it's arguably the best value in the iPad lineup right now. it may make sense to keep it as the entry level 9.7" model.

Give me the RAM of the 12", in a 10" iPad, and I'm definitely in. I need to do the 'hand me down' thing with the family, as far as my Air 1 goes. I had originally pegged the 9.7" iPad Pro, but Apple's RAM games really soured me on that one.

The Air 2 is a pretty good deal at $400, but do you really think they will keep it around and drop the price to $300? I don't. I think they will drop the 2016 9.7" iPad Pro to $500 and keep it around and the new 2017 will be $600.

Another thing to think about is the Air 2 is getting pretty scarce in stores. Apple and Staples are pretty much the only national stores still selling them and Staples appears to be dropping models as they run out of stock. I've been watching because we are thinking about picking up one for my wife's grandmother.

The iPad Mini 4 may stick around and drop to $300 (and the Mini 2 be discontinued) and a new 7.9" iPad Pro get released at $500 or $450.

People keep talking about (hoping for) a new Mini, but so far not a single rumour even mentions a 7.9" device.

I have been using my 12.9" iPad Pro since release, & I have just become to accustomed to everything it has to offer in terms of sound, display, great multitasking, etc.. It is more than capable to handle anything I need to throw at it, and then some. Any of the newer models coming this year would have to offer some serious incentives in order to convince me even the slightest to upgrade my device. Only time will tell though.

Pointless to ask this question without knowing what else is packaged with each model...especially the RAM.

I know everyone would like the 10.5 to have 4gb RAM, but I think the odds are it will be 2gb or 3gb.

I'd love for Apple to prove me wrong!

Well IF a 10.5 comes out and with a better camera that would be my choice going on current rumours. Yes 4gb of ram would be a bonus too I guess. I will notice a massive difference coming from an old iPad 3. I think the 12.9 would be too big for my use.
