Have you guys found that the 580 gets noisier when a card is in slot 2, due to the lack of airflow and having to run the fans harder?

If there is a full length card in slot 2. That most likely will make a noticeable difference (depends on the RX580 cooler, reference cooler may not be affected that much. Thicker card with open fan may suffer more). Especially when the GPU is under high stress.

But if slot 2 only has a small card (e.g. USB 3.0 card), it shouldn’t make any difference. At least I can’t see any difference in my case (PULSE 580 in slot 1, KT4004 is slot 2).

Anyway, I really tested if there any difference to run the open fan type graphic card in slot 1 and slot 2 (in terms of cooing). Result, slot 1 provide better cooling. Just few degrees difference, but measurable.

Not to hijack the thread, but is it true that Sapphire fans are louder than Gigabyte? Any consensus on why getting one is better than the other? Also, does AORUS works in latest Mojave? I'm getting ready to pull the trigger and would like feedback. I've done plenty of searches but kind of want to check in with the readers of this thread.

Thank you - I currently have a PC Sapphire 5770 (single, central) in slot 1 and placing a Lycom DT-120 next to it definitely makes the fan speed rise (and as a result the noose level)

I hope that as the 580 has two fans, this effect would be much less

Anyway, don’t want to hijack to OP’s thread too much, sorry and thanks!!

Pics?

I got a Gigabyte Gaming RX 580 and here's the clearance I'm getting...

Sorry, I was away from the office until today. Card is an Apricorn Velocity Solo x2.
The photo was taken just before I replaced it with a Vantec UGT-PC371AC USB 3.1 Gen 2 card.
