Which SSD do Apple use in Late 2012 Minis?

Just to update this thread.

I got sick of waiting and just got three 2014 Mac Mini 2.6 with Apple SSD for my business to replace some 2011 models. I have also some late 2012 models with Apple branded SSD's. All made by samsung. Now I did some speed tests on each.

Both say APPLE SSD SM256E

Are we sure these newer Mini's Apple SSD's are based off of the Samsung 830's? Maybe now the Samsung 840's?

I am getting 450/400 with the 2012 model
I am getting 560/480 with the 2014 model

there's nothing called "2014 Mac mini"....Apple hasn't released any new minis this year.

The "SM" would seem to indicate "Samsung".

Probably the "EVO" model, as I'm not sure Apple would install the "PRO" version of the 840 in the Mini series...

I think everyone knows that.(except you) I named it as such to differentiate between the two model years. Perhaps you missed the part where i said i got sick of waiting for a new mini? If both the late 2012 models one made in 2012 and one made in 2014 come with different ssds how else to differentiate between the two?

Thats 840 speed.

I know. I ran the test on all three models that were built in 2014. All three have the same speed. 560/480.

I ran the test on 4 other machines that were built in late 2012. All of those were slower in the 450/400 range.

Not a huge difference but there nonetheless.

If the new mini isn't released I'm also considering to buy a bto with 256 GB SSD. Discount sells it at 187,55 euro. If I do it myself I'd pay more for a 3rd party ssd, I have to buy the owc kit and risk messing it up. I have a usb 3 external 4 TB HDD. Or will the 256 GB be too small (os, swapping, etc?)
