Which TV Series Are You Binging On?

I’m almost done with it. Episode 8 literally on right now.
Streaming from Netflix, the first season of Spanish series Morocco: Love in Times of War. Set in the 1920s during the time when Spain as a colonial power (later assisted by France) was defending against indigenous Berbers in the Rif mountains of Morocco.
Audio offered in English, Spanish, European or Brazilian Portuguese (subtitles English, European Spanish and three Asian options). Focus is on the growth under battlefield pressures of young Spanish women who volunteered as nurses and who had mostly lived pretty sheltered lives before landing in North Africa.
Telenovela style, and romantic; requires suspending a little disbelief in some of the accordingly manipulated relationships, so just roll with that, but the historical frameworks such as we see of them are generally on the money.
It has been well received... not yet certain a season 2 will be released or that Netflix will wish to pick it up. I never make time any more to binge-watch a series per se, so I hope I remember to at least watch rest of the Season 1 episodes before they vanish.

Ah! Fantastic series. I can't speak for the historic accuracy as I am no expert on Her Majesty, but I found it quite outstanding. Claire Foy is simply amazing, sad to see her replaced in S3.
Soundtrack is also great! I also found the character of Tommy Lascelles quite intriguing, I think I'll buy his two books/diaries.
Agreed; Claire Foy is brilliant (she was brilliant as Anne Boleyn in Wolf Hall).
I have just watched three episodes so far, but think the acting, setting, lighting, costumes, all excellent.
Not only Claire Foy (as Elizabeth), but others are also outstanding: Many have written about John Lithgow's excellent Churchill, but I also thought Alex Jennings superb as the Duke of Windsor.
I read somewhere they intend six seasons and to cover the life of the Queen up to current times. Even if all the original actors were still available for subsequent seasons, it does make sense that one might not feel confident in asking any of the younger actors to project credibly the nuances of life in the advancing age of principal characters.
Not that it cannot be done, of course, but it's probably less risky if you're just casting a movie. There you have the entire screenplay at hand and can audition how the actor plays a character at different ages in an epic film. It's probably quite different when you're casting for a long series in television, and when at best maybe only two seasons at a time will be shot back to back.
Years ago (the 70s, if memory serves), Timothy West, at the time himself 40, played Edward VII in an excellent TV series that covered most of his life.
I think a different actor may have played him as a very young man, but West carried Edward though almost all of his adult life in a powerful portrayal.
Still, must say that I have been very impressed with The Crown so far. It s excellent.
The Only Way is Essex is remarkably good. Very well produced. Great cast selection each series. An award winner, too, I believe.
Oldies or newer stuff? Looking back, The Wire was epic TV, especially season 2, and 4 was also compelling TV. Can take some immersion in the plots at first to get past all the f-bombs. I won't say that getting jaded by the language is exactly what happens. You just get drawn in by the screenplay and suddenly you're not out there being the hall monitor any more.

Yeah I am going to scroll around for shows. I never really got into TV much.
And how about Vanessa Kirby as Margaret? She's amazing, and quite beautiful. She's able to portray the "free spirit" of the family as still somewhat classy.
Even Ben Miles - which I remember from Coupling (!) - is quite good. I admit I was ignorant of Peter Townsend existence, so it was interesting to see that dynamics play out. One day I'll try to figure out why many brits are so fascinated by royal gossip (as we know, Diana paid the price for it
).I also admit that since I watched House of Cards (brit one) I have been looking for a Dispatch box replica. The Crown made me desire one even more. Don't ask me why, I'd just love one
