Price dictates the 10.5. Size is another factor, especially since many don't know about or have much use for multitasking.

Shrink the bezels on the 12.9" and the gap will shrink some.

I read that post as an attempt at making a joke. :)

Since the 10.5 is simply replacing the 9.7 I expect it to enjoy similar sales. The 12.9 Pro has been somewhat of a niche since day-1. But I reserve the right to change my mind once iOS 11 is released. Depending upon how that turns out, I can see the possibility of a surge in 12.9 sales.

I sure hope so. At present, I have the 10.5. In the future, hopefully when my finances improve, I will get the 12.9 and have both. Both are really excellent. At the keynote, Apple didn't highlight the 12 so much. I sure hope it stays in the offerings and is regularly updated.

I think the 10.5 will be the go to consumption device for those wanting to update their Air2/earlier iPad, and for new customers who want to enter the iPad range on a state of the art device.

The 12.9" Pro is the device most people who want a laptop replacement, or those that want to do some serious work/art on will go for. This makes it a bit of a niche product for the moment, but I think this subset of the iPad market will grow with the release of iOS 11, and future apps to make use of the real estate and power.

Overall, the 10.5 will have the larger user base as the "consumption" crowd is larger by far, and the smaller size appeals to that segment more than the larger model.

I think the 12.9 will also have reduced bezels next time around. I couldn't wait that long for it though. The 12.9 seems to be very popular in Europe so far. I would say it's gained quite a few new owners compared to how many bought the first one.

Availability on apple stores websites and gravis websites, admittedly this is only in Germany. I read somewhere that they've been fairly popular all over Europe but not sure where I read that now.

I think when IOS 11 is out the 12.9 will be seen as a good option for many who may want to get one to replace their computer/laptops.

I certainly see more 12.9 iPad pros than I did a year ago. Wether those are first gen or 2nd who knows but it has become more popular based on my work at least.

If high quality apps that have full desktop functionality such as Affinity Photo, Affinity Designer continue to be released then I really see the 12.9 taking off in a big way.
