I went with the S10 just so I have the feeling of getting the latest and greatest. If the Ultra Apple Watch had at least included the latest chip, I would probably have gone with it, no questions asked. Alas...

Up to now sticking with my series 6, series 10 more appealing to me for an upgrade, mostly because of design and cost factors, just perplexed they didn’t improve battery life, IMHO main AW’s weakness.

Upgraded my S7 SS Graphite to the Ultra 2. There's a reason they don't compare the S10 display to the S7 as it's hardly noticeable. I'm sure apple refer to the "display" as the actual glass/crystal and not the useful bit that is actually capable of showing information. The S10 display is 416 by 496 pixels and the Ultra 2 is 410 by 502 pixels, so 6 pixels height traded for 6 pixels width. Yet the S10 display is 1220 sq mm display area and the Ultra 2 is 185 sq mm display area. So they either ARE calling the glass/crystal "the display" or the resolution is worse on the S10 as they both have the same 326 PPI (so the S10 would have bigger pixels)

Also the fast charge of the S10 is great compared to previous S watches but is just catching up to the Ultra 2. The S10 charges to 80% in 30 mins, the Ultra 2 to 80% in an hour. Misleading until you realise the Ultra 2 lasts twice as long so effectively charging the Ultra 2 to 40% in 30 mins is the same.

And having moved to the Ultra 2 with it's flat crystal I've just realised how annoying the reflections were on the curved glass/crystal of the S watch.

So not really a lot of differences except form factor. I think Apple knew if they launched an Ultra 3 with the S10 it would eat into it

I replaced my AWU2 and S7 Black Titanium with an AWU2 Black and a 46mm Jet Black S10. The AWU2 is my usual daily watch and the normal AW for night duty. I am a sucker for black Apple Watches since the OG. I was using the S7 for sleep tracking but I really wanted the Sleep Apnea detection and they gave me 120 for my S7 so it was time.

Comparing the two, the normal watch is nice and all but flimsy in comparison the the Ultra. Good for night duty but I have gotten use to the heft of the ultra for daily use. The finish on both are great. The AWU2 finish is a throwback to the OG black titanium, it can get quite light under direct light but can also look matte black under certain conditions. The Jet Black of the Series 10 is the nicest Aluminum AW finish that in have ever seen, not sure how well it will hold up to abuse but it looks amazing.
Has anyone else gone from Ti AWU2 to Black AWU2 and perhaps also kept the Ti ? :)

I purchased the S10 in Natural and am pretty happy, this pushed my S9 Graphite down to a sleep tracker (as the trade in is poor). I also have a Ti AWU2 which I was keeping anyway but now Ive seen the Black AWU2 in the flesh Im torn.

I went with the series 10 46mm jet black, I am coming from a series 5. When Apple does a refresh on Ultra will most likely go with that.

Received this one on Friday.

Returned it today.

And ordered a 46mm NaTi.

This is a beautiful combo, btw... And it highlights the new thin shape of the watch.

Why did you return?
The colour of the Gold Ti is way darker than expected. Looks more like the GSS from Series 4 and 5. I don't like it, so went to Apple Store for NaTi. Like that colour for the Series 10 much more. So ordered one in 46 mm NaTi. Now I just have to wait till the end of next month.:(

I just pulled the trigger yesterday and purchased the S10 46mm in Jet Black, finally moving on from my AWS4 Nike + 44mm.

I kept going back to the U2 due to the casing of the watch and more importantly (to me anyway) the 2 + day of battery life... in the end, I just couldn't justify the cost difference based on the battery life simply because of the true quick charge ability of the S10.

So far, I absolutely love the upgrade. The screen real estate is a welcomed addition along with the addition health monitoring as well.

Ultimately, I'm not sure you can go wrong with either option.

I should have asked between titanium and ultra. The cheap watch is impacting the poll.
I picked up a S10 46mm slate titanium for myself and a rose gold 42mm aluminum S10 for my wife. I traded in an old AW SE and still have my natural titanium Ultra. Went with Nike bands on both.

I have an Ultra 1 already that I wear all day, and a series 7 that I use for sleep tracking. I am going to relegate my Ultra to sleep tracking (since it still does blood oxygen) and my daily hike, and use the series 10 as my daily watch.

I preordered a Series 10, then tried on an Ultra 2 at the Apple Shop, and had a bit of a wobble, but kept my preorder, and I am glad that I have.
I'm facing the opposite situation; I preordered the Ultra 2, but tried a Series 10 Ti at the store, and am now wobbling.

What made you stick to your preorder in the end?

The price difference, but also the smaller size - does it need to be more robust if it is slimmer, so less likely to get knocked.

I think that ignoring price, the Series 10 Ti would be the one I'd go for.

Won't know until I see the S10 in person. I prefer the flat screen of the Ultra, but it's a bit too thick and heavy for me to wear comfortably. When the S8 and original Ultra came out, I tried both and ended up keeping the S8 and returned the Ultra even though I liked the Ultra screen better, because S8 was more comfortable to wear. I suspect that I'll come to the same conclusion with the S10, but we'll see.
Had you been to an Apple Store before? If not then you should go to a local Apple Store near you. There are Apple Watch series 10 available to try out for both sizes, all of the newest bands and materials. You can also try on the black Apple Watch Ultra 2!

Regarding the topic here, I pick the S10 as if I need to upgrade my Apple Watch Series 6 to the S10 in case it breaks and the blood oxygen feature is back, i would get the jet black, natural or gold titanium 42mm. The ultra in black is so bold but I do not want to waste my collection of 41mm Apple Watch bands I had been collecting for years, and that the black ultra is a big brick 🧱 on my wrist.

Oh, sorry, I guess I wasn't clear enough. When I wrote that post, I had been planning to go to an Apple store to check out the watches, and meant that I won't know until I had done so. I have several Apple stores near me, and have always checked out the watches in stores before buying them.

I did manage to get to an Apple store over the weekend, and have decided to get an S10 if I do upgrade this year. But I just may skip upgrading this year, and stick with my S8 for another year or two. We'll see.

Indeed. Especially you did return the Apple Watch Ultra 1 because it was a brick 🧱 on your wrist as well, right? I can fit a 45mm Apple Watch but I have to switch to smaller bands. Decided which iPhone to upgrade to in order to pair with the S10, once you get it?

The ultra was huge, yes, but comfortable to wear, and I loved the flat screen. I was very very tempted to keep it.

And the main reason I may not upgrade my watch this year is I can't decide which phone to get. If I could upgrade my watch without having to get a new phone, I'd have bought one already.

You are going to upgrade from an iPhone X, right? Here’s a few questions for you. First and foremost, do you need Apple intelligence? How much storage is your iPhone right now?

If cost is a concern, then here’s a few tips: Get an iPhone 13 or 14 on eBay for cheap. If you want pro level features I prefer a minimum of an iPhone 13 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro, you can still use it for many years. If you don’t mind getting a new number, T-Mobile has half off new iPhone 13 models.

If I have to pick between the two, it would be Titanium Series 10 100%.

The 49mm of the Ultra is too big for my small wrists. I'm not a fan of the rugged and bulky design.

The sleek and more comfortable design of the Series 10 fits my style.

Going to Apple Store today for the still undecided decision… if some read this in the next few hours.

My dilemma …

Have series 6 aluminum, since launch, battery is at the 75% threshold message. Have rhinoshield, which kept body mint , and my first micro scratch on glass over summer , snagged on fence ripping out sumac. Waited patiently until this cycle for the “u3.” We all know what happened.

Either 10 aluminum , then get the rhinosheild bumpers etc for protection (most likely making it look like an oversized 🚙 suv ). 10 ti slate, or ultra 2 black.

I do everything except scuba dive and hike Everest. Mtn bike , build trails , ski , road cycle , hike , etc … the whole enchilada. Rothrock state forest is in the backyard. Rock gardens galore and some of the sweetest single track on east coast. With the 6, everytime I flew off bike , made sure the series 6 survived, before looking at what dingers and tattoos the steel 🚲 frame got on from that endo / Superman flight.

Wrist size is not an issue. I’m a Sasquatch.

Also never attend fancy functions / country club lifestyle which the 10 ti would accommodate better.

Get the black u2 then trade in when blood pressure comes into play ? 10 ti for lower profile under winter gloves and hard/soft shells?

3 hours to decide.
