Mine sounds very similar. But dont you agree, even at the beginning, that there is an underlying sound? Like a higher pitched sound? I manage to minimise the noise by changing the fan rpm from 1325 to 1275. I am sure fhe machine ia still cool enough. But its much less of that annoying “background noise”.
Certainly there is something there in the recording. The Mac can't be heard by ear, from the front, more than a few inches away from the top rear edge of its housing and no whine seems to be present by ear. The iPhone doesn't record any noise from it at all (at idle) from more than two inches away. In effect, this Mac is "dead silent". In order to even record it at idle the iPhone had to be within two inches of the exhaust holes so it was placed on top of the Mac protected from the potential of the airflow hitting and affecting the mics. By getting that close I was able to record a "silent" Studio Mac. Any further away and there would be silence on the recording. I don't have a more sensitive external mic. The recording is real but does not reflect the actual user experience. Best I can do with my "dead silent" Mac Studio.

Thx for your recording. I phone, to my knowledge can’t record under 30db. So , yeah, you need to get very close to it. To my girlfriends ear, my mac studio is also “dead silent”. But i can also hear my fridge making “noises” in the basement. 😅

Here is an iPhone 13 Pro Max recording of a Mac Studio Max to help Fenderborn out.
It is somewhat humorous to be seeking, or providing, an audio recording of something "silent".
Normally the fans on this example idle between 1325 and 1339 RPM. Never seen the Mac break 1350 RPM unless done manually. Unless I get very close to the machine, as in within a few inches, it is silent with a room noise floor of 28 db (in the best case). I never hear any whine no matter how hard I try. In the recording it can be heard whining on idle, the speed ramps up to max then back down to idle. On the return to idle the whine is greatest.
So while I can make a recording that makes my Mac whine and sound loud what matters is the sounds I can perceive when it is in use. It is perceptually, to me, "dead silent". Apple needs to do a rethink on their approach to cooling as they risk loosing their market of younger users and those with more sensitive hearing.

I can hear an obvious and annoying whine in the beginning of this recording. This is the sound my 2 returned units made. The difference for me is that I could hear the whine from any part of the room and under any workloads including idle. I'm done with the Studio, waiting on a Mac Mini with 32gb of RAM as an alternative.

I will build now a under-desk-hanging-setup with anti dust filter. 🥳

Mine is the other side, the squeal is annoying now. Trying to get used to it, may send it back if I cannot. Trouble is what do I do with the display? Apple is unlikely to take it back.
I am in a different country but they accepted to take the display back after a month as I explained that I purchased it solely for the Mac Studio. You should try.

Resurrecting this thread, my base model definitively had whine from the fans, easily tuned by changing the RPM of the fans but always there. Brought it into the Apple Store, the guy at the genius bar couldn't hear it but recognised the problem, another customer had also had it.
He didn't fight me on it, ordered a new fan and today I left my machine for repair, hoping the replacement will not have the issue. They say it will be around a week of wait, I'm mostly worried about them messing up reapplying thermal paste or some other error while putting it back together 😰

They didn't offer you a replacement?

I can't understand how they recognise the problem the first time but the second they said its not faulty.

I have also a Mac Studio(Max) and I have the whine sound. Although I'm starting to thinking that this sound will be in every unit more or less. So I don't know what to do. if I should go for replacement/repair or just stick with it. Overall I'm thrilled with the performance that has. I want so bad to get rid of that sound and enjoy my machine.

Well.,…. The reseller run “their” tests and they said that the fans are OK. And that the sound is not noticable. When it, clearly is.
That's bad. If you try to send them screenshots from analysers and show them that there is the exact same sound before and after? This is what I'm gonna do, I have screenshots and recordings of my current machine, so if I replace it an have the same sound in a new unit I will show it to them with proofs.

Actually that would be interesting. I mean maybe not recording them, but see if all the units have the same problem. if it is then maybe we won't find a machine without and just have to live with that sound. Please inform us if you have the chance to hear the other machines!!!

About to get the mac studio 10 core $1999, but now im reading about a problem where the fans run 24/7 and sounds like "coil whine". not everyone has the problem of course, but i keep seeing alot of threads and videos but they are a while ago. worries me

Im wondering maybe if newer built ones are better?
