You read my mind. I remember the ’good old days’ of the white iBook and MacBook (pour one out for the BlackBook). The biggest problem with those was the discoloration and dirt on the white palm rests and keyboards.
I was set on the white too, then decided to go back to black. I’ve had a black keyboard for 2.5 years with my 11” and it still looks good, so I’ll be sticking with black
My 2010 MacBook hasn't discoloured.

I went with the Silver 12.9” iPad Pro with every intention of getting the white Magic Keyboard to match. Still leaning in that direction. I’ve had the black one a few times already and I want something that feels “new” and fresh, so white looks to be my choice unless I have a sudden change of heart.

That's the thinking many of us had early on. It was just legally covering themselves when the latest gen iPP didn't fit PERFECTLY with previous model, because of it's additional thickness. You've had to see the posts on this forum, people freak out because there's a scuff in the box or the slightest imagined gap with any Apple product. I'm wondering if the hinge mechanism / charge port is a little thicker to account for the slightly increased thickness of the 2020 iPP.

If they had thought the first version through with what that’s had in the pipeline for the 2021 version, all the outrage would have been non-existent.

Now imagine the potential savings this could have had on the environment and compare to Apple’s environmental values. Enough said.

That's just it. We don't know what they thought.

Perhaps they legit believe that a version with their new screen could be done the same size.

Perhaps they knew, and thought double dipping would help offset any costs for whatever, and they went with it for the money.

We don't know. Until we do, there's isn't much to be said. What environment is affected? A business makes as many accessories to go with the units they make, did all of the 2018 - 2020 12.9 iPPs disappear overnight?

Compared photos of the two colors again, and just noticed that the black has a two-tone keyboard that the white lacks. Kinda makes the white keyboard look plain and cheap by comparison.

Still, I'm going for the white anyway. So tired of those dull grayish iPad Pro cases from Apple.

Do you guys think a Silver iPad Pro would look wonky with a black Magic Keyboard? I know Space Gray would match better obviously, but I still don’t know if I should get black or white.

prospervic, that’s a detail I did not notice myself. Very interesting indeed!

I’ve always preferred white keyboards. For me, I can clean them right up and they don’t show the shiny key wear as easily as the black. I would imagine the material will be silicony type rubber which I think actually looks cleaner longer. I have had white cases for my iPads and iPhones for years and they never got stained looking.

I’m excited to get the white keyboard to go with the silver IPP.

Yeah, the white Magic Keyboard does look very sleek. That’s probably what I’ll end up going with since my IPP is Silver this year, and I bought that color specifically to match the white Magic Keyboard in the first place. :p

I actually love the two tone look of the silver iPad with black keyboard - the silver provides a fantastic accent color and is what I went with again this year - I also think the backlighting will look much better with the black keys - also when using the keyboard as a stand for movies the black will disappear more.

You make an excellent case for the Silver IPP with the Black MK. Now my decision has become even harder!

New opinion on White MKB:
The magsafe duo charger is the exact same white, and material construction.
Even with the pressed seams on the edges.
I have traveled with the duo charger for several months, and there isn't a stain or blemish to be seen.
Granted, I don't touch it continuously with my hands.
But I feel like the MKB will hold up well, based on my experience with the duo.

How can you confirm that the material is the same?

The white magic keyboard is now showing available for delivery 21 May to 27 May. It was showing a week delay before. Guess they got better estimates of availability?
I’m just gonna rock up to an Apple store on launch day or wait for click and collect :)

Actually, my 2018 IPP is silver, and I think it matches quite nicely with the black Magic Keyboard. It makes a really nice contrast, more so than the space gray, especially when closed.

Will it look a bit like this when lit?

I was going to go with the white MK, but just couldn’t do it, especially seeing how grungy my keyboard folio had gotten over the past couple of years. I went safe and got the black MK, which already delivered, to go with my 2021 12.9” iPP 256gb cellular model. I’m happy with my choice, as much as the white would have been a nice change, it would have driven me crazy trying to keep it looking clean.
