I suppose the level you're referring to is the one at which you make a public accusation of bigotry toward somebody who makes a joke about a statement of fact?

Haha. Whatever floats your boat, Galacticos. You can have the last word on this. Now watch...:D

Yes, it might have been sarcastic, but it's also sexist and perpetuates stereotypes. It would have been better for the commenter to give reasons on why they actually chose black, exactly what it was about the design they appreciated.
I interpreted the post as being sarcastic and didn't put any more thought into it. That said, it's difficult to convey sarcasm in text so I can see what you mean. However, I think the intention was to be harmless and I believe that person clarified later on in the thread.

I'd like a white back with black bezels.
This would be nice, that would remind me of the 3G/3GS days where this was possible.

I believe MJ solved this years ago.

"But if you're thinkin' about my bezel it don't matter if it's black or white."

This is the easiest way to decide. If you're more of a content reader go with a white front. If you more of a media consumer such as watching videos or playing games go with a black. My personal preference is white.

But what if you use both equally? Then you're in a pickle.

What pains me is the little black border round the screen; it sticks out with white bezels. In an ideal world, we would have a bezel that changed depending on the context. So, if reading a book with a papyrus background, the bezel would change to papyrus. If watching a video, the bezel would change to black.

How long before we see such an innovation? Maybe never. Perhaps I'm being too pessimistic, but I fear I'm not. We maybe need to resign ourselves to the fact that we will always have to choose either black or white in this imperfect world.

Sexist rubbish comment.

Yes, I'd love Apple to reduce the gaps on the white front so much so that it just blends in with the screen. I wonder if that's possible and likely to occur in future models. It has been getting slightly better since #4.

haha, how is it sexist?

In honesty I don't really care who has what colour and why they prefer it - Jet black is the only winner now :).

When the screen is turned off: BLACK
When the screen is turned on: WHITE

And as I mostly have it in my pocket when the screen is on, white it is for me. As almost everything in iOS is so white, I don't like the black front anymore. I think the white front matches the OS much better.

Exactly what I think. I always go with white. Even so I always go back and forth in my head before I finally order white.

Easy, white front. I haven't had to search for my phone on a table or couch with the lights off since I went to white. Black easily disappears in a dark room

I've noticed that when using Waze or Maps while driving, the white bezel is more distracting than the black bezel.

This is very true and an excellent reason to choose white. However, you can compensate by buying a case that's a bit more colorful.

Black makes the bezel seem smaller

Very true.

black after having a white front for 3 years. My first iDevice was a black iPod touch, so it feels good to be back

There are two reasons why I refuse to use anything that doesn't have a black bezel:
  1. When the device is off and you have a white front, you get this gaping black rectangle whereas it's just a sleek monolithic surface when you have a black front.
  2. There is a small inactive part of the screen between the display and the bezel even when it's on, so you always have this thin black edge between a lit screen and a white bezel that's far more noticeable (see pic). It drives me crazy.

Interesting how people focus on different things. Friend of mine says staring into a black phone is like looking at depression. White phones are more uplifting, emotionally, and more modern.

I've heard lots of people comment on the black "border" around the image of the display on white phones. Doesn't bother me at all.

I like white front. It feels brighter to me and I also feel that with white I have more case choices. But that just me.

Cases definitely work better with white.

Something no one else has mentioned is that using a GPS app like Waze is more distracting in the car when it's used on a white phone. The black phone blends in better with the interior and doesn't pull your attention to the device as much, which can actually be a hazard while driving. To me, this is the main thing that makes me lean toward black phones.

I'm THAT type of iPhone owner who usually goes with the most recent color, which is why the front screen color has almost never been a "make or break" with me.

I like the "go with latest color" philosophy. Sure makes the whole process of choosing a lot easier.

I prefer black because I like the stealthy look it has with the illusion that the entire front is a single piece of screen. Also for some reason the white borders make the screen look smaller than it already is and doesn't help with the thick bezels. Moreover, most of the phone cases atleast the slim ones I use seem to blend very well with a black front, nothing to do with the so called gender assigned colours.

Couple that with an Apple black leather case and you have a phone you can't find half the time! :D

I got a white and gold one earlier this year but I think my favorite might be the silver which may be the least sold color. Apple might release a glossy white iPhone for the tenth anniversary.
