Since the reveal of iOS7, there have been discussions about one OS copying another OS. I'm not sure why that matters. In a court of law it'll matter when patent trolls go hunting. But in the eyes of the consumers (not the fanboy), who the hell cares? Seriously. There are so many awesome features out there, why not copy them. We are at a time where there are less and less "wow moments" at these unveilings. Until we start seeing stuff like extremely flexible screens and other hardware, this is where we'll be for the next 3-5 years at the least.
I have to say I was a little surprised at the crowd oohing and awing at the reveal of iOS7. There was nothing new to the industry that was shown. I think it was a great update for iOS users, but nothing great in general. There's always gotta be a first, and then the rest jump in. All the while improving feature after feature. I think it's extremely obvious where the influences (WebOS, Windows Vista, Android, Touchwiz, Sense) came from for the look of iOS 7. But that's a good thing. It brought a lot of much needed functionality to iOS. So if you just relax and take a second to think about it, do you really care whether anyone copies anyone else?

Nobody really cares until apple started suing the crap out of everyone using ridiculous design patents .

You don't care, as long as Apple is the copycat.

Is the IOS forum closed, or what's the reason for some newly useless/trolling threads in this section.

Exactly. I think everyone is beginning to realize that Apple hasn't innovated a thing on the mobile front for at least 3 years. They simply rehash the same designs over and over, whether it be software (or they flat out steal software apps/design) or hardware.

It is becoming more obvious to many people that Apple's only real goal these days is to stifle competition using the US Patent Office and a broken patent system, along with litigation. And Apple continues to do this to this very day, attempting to repatent patents by other companies. Most recently OnStar's remote finding and integration patent and Google Maps compass view. Apple should pay Google upwards of 10 billion dollars for blatantly copying the Notification Center and then putting it on phones, tablets and Macs for the last few years.

People are not forgetting Steve's Jobs' dying words claiming that Android is a stolen product (from Apple) and that he is willing to go thermonuclear on this. Now, whenever people see a feature in iOS that has been in Android for years already, I'm sure Jobs' thermonuclear speech is on people's minds. They see the hyprocracy even though Jobs is no longer with us. People are not letting this go, rightly or wrongly.

You would be surprised at what bends people out of shape on this forum, kinda sad most of the time. Especially crap like who copied who.

I agree with iOS7, it was great for us iOS users, but it was 99.9% catching up to the rest of the industry. It's kinda sad for us iOS users to get excited about catching up, but it is what it is.

If I had a phone that had all the best features from iOS, Android and Windows, TBH, I wouldn't give a damn who copied from who. :)

Agreed. Not gonna let nonsense like this decide what is the best for my personal needs.

Nobody really cares until apple started suing the crap out of everyone using ridiculous design patents .

And please don't misinterpret my statement as advocacy for Apple's patent 'disputes'--can replace 'Apple' with any other company and my response won't change. I've got plenty of other significant distractions in my life to spend any time worrying about this corporate BS. If anyone thinks ANY of these companies wouldn't step on a few toes to make more money for their shareholders, I've got a bridge to sell you.

Best product for my needs gets my money, plain and simple.

It is human nature to want to punish the troublemaker i. e apple. Whether you like it or not apple did riled people up with its hypocrisy and arrogance. Come on who doesn't get pissed off when apple keeps repeating that it invented something that it didn't and then sued others for it. Adding to the fire is the fact that apple can win cases based on those ridiculous patents.

People need to vent their anger on Apple. Rightfully so.

I honestly could not give a crap about one company copying from another, because at the end of the day it means more platforms get more awesome features.

What DOES bother me is that if someone takes inspiration from Apple, they're thieves and need to be sued for it.
But if Apple does it? Well then it's magical and revolutionary.

Double standards are what bothers me.

I wish Apple copied colors from anyone. Those damn Rainbow Brite icons need to go. That's the REAL issue at hand.

Apples reputation for innovation, and then their flurry of patent lawsuits really put them in a position to be resented by a lot of people. So the first chance anyone has to criticize Apple from borrowing or copying anyone, they are going to jump on it.

iOS 7 was developed by a hardware guy, and a marketing/advertising team who aren't software engineers, and when you take Jobs and Forstall out of the picture, it's even less of a surprise that iOS 7 seems to imitate more than innovate.

And what good is that really going to do? Samsung/Google really seem to be suffering in the profit column. I think you're overestimating how much people care (if at all).

You want to carry a grudge over this, that's your prerogative. I've got plenty of better things to do with my time.

I stopped using iOS last year, it was dated and "same" and I wasn't 'buying it' anymore. To be honest I am rather glad iOS7 is so ugly (to me at least), so that I am not tempted to go back to it.

However, that said. I am using OS X, and god help us all if Sir Ive touches that software. He is hardware god.. I sacrifice at his altar... But, good god, isn't he a muppet when it comes to designing software.. What Apple did with the latest iteration of iOS is just plug in the stupid colour scheme as a payback to Forstall... In the mean time, they copied a little from everyone else and haven't really innovated at all.

I would just love to see MS, Google and others take Apple to court for the "simplification" and "lack of clutter and ornamentation".

Not sure, but for a company that has $7x10^9 this is just not good enough...

It doesn't really matter, these forums have become a bitch fest. People bitch without actually offering anything useful.

The fact is, a lot of features on Android were available on Cydia first, before everything else. I mean, Apple's very own home screen was used on Blackberry, a bunch of icons on the page. So no it doesn't really matter who copied who. Samsung didn't emphasize S-voice and Google didn't emphasize google now until Siri came out. Does it really matter at the end of the day who started it? NO!

Talking about Apple copying...I mean how many different intuitive, simple ways are there to multitask? Think about it for a second. What exactly is Apple copying?

Apple started this game. Last time I checked, Samsung pretty much copied Apples style from the jump and they seem to be doing alright.

The last time i read both Samsung and Google seem to be doing ok. but apple sales seems to grow at a much slower pace than its competitors.

I totally agree. I couldn't give 2 hoots. I know what I like and that is all that matters to me. I wish all the litigation would stop.

many iOS users also love to hate on Android so when they get excited over a feature Android has had for years I think the Android user who cares enough will point out they've been enjoying that feature for some time.

Who cares. Those running Apple now sure arent sticking to what he wanted. And Android was a product that was developing long before Jobs started the iPhone....and it has has been mentioned in here many times that Apple wasnt the first to have things like icons (for example) and shown to be a copy of other phones. They just did it better than the others.

Apple should just shut their piehole and try to innovate something instead of trying to sue everyone for doing the very thing they themselves do. Hec they are copying Android with their iOS 7. And i dont really care who copies who. Ill use whichever device works best for me in what i like to do and for a phone, it has been Android.

Most of the ideas being "copied" by one company or another are all common sense things anyway. But whoever does it second is considered to be stealing. Android initially ripped off iOS, that's kind of a no brainer. But since then it has evolved. A lot. I don't think the two OS's look or behave anything alike. And at the end of the day, most of us are just using these phones as a means to access apps, and the App store/Google Play store are almost identical at this point.

Honestly, I think iOS 7 looks great for the most part, but the only real new feature that I find interesting (and don't find on Android) is Air Drop. But no matter what iOS does, you can count on a thousand developers releasing apps for Android to mimmic iOS behaviors. And since Air Drop will be an iOS only feature, it looses luster. Just like iMessage and Face Time, etc. I am way more interested in an app that performs across at least the two major platforms than I ever will be in a native OS feature. Apple and Google both aren't going anywhere any time soon, and neither is Samsung. Until the whole world is using the same hardware and software, there is no wowing me with exclusive features. It's not like the old days anymore where every smartphone was a Black Berry.
