YEESH! I checked out your photos and that is indeed nasty. It's strange, I've never encountered that on my own 24" and I live in an extremely humid country.

Is there any extreme source of moisture in the area you're using your Mac that you could pinpoint (and eradicate)? That just doesn't seem right, especially on four different iMacs. The glass can be removed by the end user. It's only held on by magnets. There are a ton of Youtube videos showing various methods to do so including suction cups and duct tape.

I don't recommend it though because it's extremely easy to get dust particles under the glass once it's removed and they end up resembling stuck pixels that flicker.

Incidentally, you were quite lucky to get Apple to replace your first iMac for a single dead pixel. They usually won't do that unless you have a few at least, in prominent locations.

It happened again tonight when i turned on my iMac to work on my assignment after being at Uni fo over 12 hours ugh!!!!

Im sitting at a desk with nothing near moisture.. The thing is the same thing happened when i got my 3rd mac and started it up at my boyfriends place. This was summer and it was cool inside - not humid at all.

Ive read many forums about this problem and also removing the glass to clean it up but yeah, not too fond of removing the glass :p

Anyways i want to email the lady ive been dealing with but i feel so bad bothering her! She has been nothing but helpful over the last few times...

Im definitely buying AppleCare before my 1 year is up!!!!

Btw i know im really lucky about the dead pixel :D I work in a consumer eletronics store in NZ that sells Apple and made sure they knew when i fired off that email lol Plus i went on and on about my trusty ibook G4 still going strong!

I went through 5 iMac's and 4 of them had Screen issues (Backlight bleeding, and condensation) the other had a wire hitting the fan i ended up returning my imac and saying goodbye to apple but i think im ready for a new imac again considering the new GPU and FSB :)

Well, if you returned four machines just for backlight bleeding you should probably have a look at this thread before pulling the trigger on a new iMac since based on that criterion you'll probably be returning the next one you order too. :p

Yeah i saw that thread, As with my pc i have had 2 different 24" monitors and both have had back light bleeding. Ive come to the conclusion that you just cant get a perfect 24" screen these days and i miss my OSX

I have a 24" Al iMac that is working perfectly well, I bought it mid-september 2007. Should I install the EFI firmware update or could it start the random shutdown problem?
Thanks!

So after my last post on here, i decided to try and email Steve Jobs.

googled what others thought the email was and proceeded with my email and off it went.

So that was last nite.. nearly 24 hours later, i get a phone call on my cell from an Australian number.

It was Apple!!! Ringing regarding my email i sent!

HA!!!

I dont think i should get into what we discussed but i never expected this!!!

Will update on here when its sorted :D

okay now i found problem

mine has serious gradient screen.

guess i did not take notice untill i do alot of photoshop work.

the center is YELLOW!

and the side white.

hahahaha

we;;; i still love it!

Bought a 3.06GHz 24" iMac today with much trepidation. I orginally bought a 2.4 back in January but returned it due to the gradient problem and condensation appearing. Was apprehensive I'd have the same problems.

The screen on this one, whilst not perfect, is a considerable improvement over the one I returned. It's perhaps a touch yellower in the middle than at the sides, but not to the extent that I'd consider it worth returning.

Migration assistant doesn't work from my cube, and I've just spotted one dead pixel (also so inconspicuous that it's not worth worrying about) but other than that I'm very happy.

I've got 4GB PC2-5300 RAM that I bought for my first iMac. I'm trying to decide whether I should install it or eBay it and buy PC2-6400 for a small performance boost.

I HIGHLY recommend ebaying the ram and purchasing PC2-6400. The 667 is not guaranteed to work, and even if it does, why purchase a new computer and put slow ram in it? I'd rather use 2GB of 800 Mhz than 4GB of 667 Mhz.

From my research, you can purchase PC2-6400 for less than PC2-5300 these days. I've seen 4GB PC2-6400 for $81.99 CAN vs. the cheapest PC2-5300 I've seen at $88.75 US.

I heard the aluminum iMacs with serial codes starting with a "W8" were supposed to have monitor issues. I've had my 20" 'W8' for a yearish and have had no problems at all.

Well it's been 1 year and 2 months since I bought my iMac (specs in sig)

I'm happy to report it's just as perfect as the day I got it. Never had display issues, never had locking up.

It's nice that my first Mac purchase as been such a good one, I won't ever be going back to the Windows platform again.
