Okay, so first of all, iPad is the most useless product from Apple. Why? It's not a computer, just a giant iPod Touch. No multitasking, no OS X, just everything that is available for iPhone/iTouch already. It won't fit into your pocket so it can't be used as an iPod but it's too small and slow to be used as a computer.

Simply, I find no interest on it. Who would buy it? Okay, the price is nice, but if you already have a laptop, why don't you use that instead or buy a MacBook which is a lot faster and runs a real OS X, not an iPhone OS. Why couldn't Apple make a lighter version of OS X and include that? Then you would have millions of apps available and multitasking etc.

I'm more interested about the gap between iMac and Mac Pro (xMac?) than this ex-gap.

Just my opinion... Please tell yours

At the iPhone hacks section.
You see how much ebook readers sell like the Kindle etc...
The Ipad is like that only 10 times better as it can do way more.
Theres definetelly a market for it and it will sell. Maybe not for you or not for everyone but definetelly a usefull device to some.

As you already know through our discussion (me and you), I agree with you. There is nothing special about this device, it's just a big iPhone, without the Phone.

I'd rather have a Hackintoshed netbook, at a LOT less than that price.

I am iffy on it too, I suppose the 2ng Gen will be better. I'll wait for that. The only thing I take away from today is, that Verizon users still get the shaft and I love it after all the talk they do all the time. Suffer through your crap phones VZW users. And hopefulyl the Verizon threads will die a slow death

But it's also ten times worse at displaying ebooks. It doesn't have an e-ink screen, which basically makes it an interesting breed of devices that in the end can't do any task perfectly.

So count me in!

Interesting.
I never got into those ebook readers and their features either.
But I figured they'd be fine without an e-Ink screen.

I am not buying it at its current price. It has little value to ME.

However, once it hits the refurbed store at a decent price, then maybe.

Why do haters need other people to justify their disinterest in a new product?

Why should a discussion about the feasibility of a new product or product class be off the table? If it's not, then people's general interest in a product is certainly on-topic for such a discussion since it has a bearing on what it is useful for and what its chances of being a success are.

I'm not going to write the iPad off myself, but I wasn't wowed by this announcement, either, and will not be including an iPad purchase in my spring budget at this point.

I personally don't want or NEED an ipad. Not to say that if someone gave me the $499 for free, I wouldn't use it. It's basically a book reader on steroids. I still think the iPhone is a more evolutionary product. Everybody wanted one, people cancelled their contracts (I cancelled Sprint in 2007 after 9 years), millions were sold, it changed the cell phone industry, tons of phones tried to copy it,and this was before the app store. All you could do with it before the app store, was email, internet, music, videos, weather, camera and the map. Look how it has evolved, all the things I originally wanted, GPS, video camera, cut, copy & paste, MMS have all been added (And I have a 3G not 3GS). So maybe there is hope for the ipad, but right now, I'm not interested or wowed by it.

Look at the tech specs for it. It requires you to have OSX 10.5 Apple famous way of forcing people to upgrade their OS.

They out date stuff on purpose not because it requires something in lepord.

Yet as long as you have XP home it works JUST fine. Kind of sad conidering Vista is older than OSX 10.5 and XP which dates all the way back to 2001 is still supported........

Yet for max users you have to have an OS release in after Vista was released.

I'm a bit underwhelmed also. Thought it would lean more toward the Mac. I hoped there would be SD card slot, hinged door like the Air with video out and one USB, high-end capacity of 128mb, and GPS chip on-board.

Also, no mention of whether we can tether it to our iPhones when or if AT&T releases that option and no mention of being able to connect to a Bluetooth keyboard.

I'm not interested either. When I had a netbook, I used it for browsing and talking to friends on MSN. Since I can't run MSN (eg. eBuddy) and Safari simultaneously on an iPad, I'd just be sitting there staring at a full-screen chat window all day. I don't really find that very exciting.

They should have named iWorks iFlow on the iPad.

Then people could say, hey use your iPad to stop the iFlow.

It's a great little device and it's going to sell like hotcakes.

This is the same crowd that said the MBA was going to bomb. It didn't. It created a new class of laptop that every major manufacturer, and this new class effectively killed the netbook market.

Underwhelmed also. Probably not interested in this gen of it, maybe next generation and it will be time to see if it will have real world uses instead of being an accessory/jewelery.

I havent seen this mentioned, but 4:3 screen is a big no no for watching movies.

Screen keyboard is a going to be cumbersome to hold and type.

IPS consumes more battery than standard TFT, but was chosen for wide angle viewing.

Dont see a revolution here, maybe I am blind like I have been before.

I'm very interested in it. It's not a useless product, it's just not aimed towards the type of people that visit MacRumors. As I said in another topic, Apple is trying to sell this to the older, non-tech people. The kind of people that don't spend every waking hour in front of a computer screen. For people like this, the iPad is perfect. They don't need all the power of a laptop. This isn't a computing device that needs to sit at a desk. This is something for people to keep on their night stand, in their kitchen or living room, to use for browsing the internet, storing thousands of photos, reading books/magazines. There's a big market for this product, it's just not for us computer nerds.

but its not 10 times better.... reading on LCD will cause eye strain. :(

this product is great for people who dont read, bad for people who do read, and terrible for people who NEED to read (ie people who read for work reasons).

It looks like a decent device but yeah, definitely not for me.

No multi-tasking, no USB, no camera. Although they'll probably all come in future revisions.

Oh yeah, and +1 on the XMac, mini-tower Mac. Yes, I know it'll probably never happen but I still want it.
