Everything is perfect on mine except a minor scratch on the screen where it was viciously poked by an idiot who thought that they could get their point across better by poking the screen!

My C2D MBP is pretty much flawless, runs cool (will check exact temp later), no dead pixels, everything seems to be running fine. I will burn a DVD soon to check the drive.

One thing: my screen is very slightly warped (edges are further from bottom when closed). It's not very noticeable though and I don't care anyhow

Well last week I got a macbok pro that had a horrible sound coming out of the keyboard. I returned after many arguments with the dealer and got a full refund.

I just got a new one and this one works beautifuly. No heat, no sound at all whatsover, the screen is pretty even. So far I have not noticed anything bad about it. I'm loving it!!!

Knock on wood, but as of now, this MacBook Pro 2.33 is absolutely flawless; I'm pretty tough to please too.

The only thing, and this is just something I noticed, not sure if it occurs on older models: when you rapidly start and stop a sound (use the feedback from increasing volume or sending an instant message to check) there is a very faint and short "tick" sound that occurs during or after the sound. This only happens with headphones.

Flawless!!!

Ordered my 15" MBP with matte screen, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB HDD the morning they were announced. I received it on Wednesday, November 1st, two days earlier than expected. There is always the remote nagging feeling after reading the forums of the potential "problems" you may possibly have.

I am elated that my MBP is just about flawless. I say "just about flawless" because it still is new and something may show up but to date, I have no issues.

No dead/stuck pixels and the screen is evenly lit
Absolutely no noise from HDD, fans, or from any other source
Temp not a problem, both fans running at 2,000 RPM & the temp is 123.8 F
Screen closes flush on all sides, no variance
Audio is experiencing no problems
And it is fast, starts up from time power button is pushed to completely up and running in less than 20 seconds, probably closer to 15 seconds

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

My glossy MBP is an absolute joy to use, flawless in every way! Except for using Handbrake to rip/encode DVDs for my iPod, the fans never come on, and my temp has never gotten above 120 F! The screen is bright, evenly lit with no "light leakage," no glare in any lighting I've tried (and I've tried to find "glare" with it!), and no stuck/dead pixels! My old iBook G3 500MHz got warmer than my MBP - it's cool to touch, except with intense gaming, or taxing the processors with multiple apps - even then it stays cooler to touch than my 1GHz Titanium PB!

This MBP is a dream to own - am I ever glad I waited out the Yonah MBPs to get this! :D :D :D

Defective screen!

The new Core2 Duo MacBook Pro's display is brighter on the left than on the right and this can be seen in the comparison shot, where the Core Duo version is even throughout. It's easier to see in person when you're sitting right in front of it. It's driving me crazy.

Take it back! That's not "normal" - mine's perfectly evenly lit! Try a glossy?

:)

"Rapidly" stopping a sound will always produce a click because you go from (for example) full volume to zero volume in one step. This can be prevented by ramping the volume down to zero in more steps, but that depends on the software (and possibly the hardware could implement this, but I doubt it's done).

Mine has issues also. :(

1/ The left side of the screen is brighter than the right.

2/ The left speaker is all high and the right all bass.

3/ The firewire port is very lose.

4/ It is very noisy.

5/ the space bar is marked.

It is a BTO 15" (160G). What can I do, I do not really want to be without a notebook for weeks and take the risk of getting one with similar or other issues.

Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Many thanks.

All smiles here

I recieved my 2.33ghz / 2GB / 160GB / Glossy C2D MBP last Thursday and I have to say I couldn't be happier.

This is the nicest laptop I've ever used (not just because its the newest spec). The combination of hardware, design and operating system are unbeatable at the moment (IMO).

The screen is PERFECT. It's bright, evenly lit and the colors saturation is fantastic. I'm never going back to Matte - glare? what glare?? I'll gladly trade a small amount of reflection in bright light for blacker blacks and deeper color saturation.

I was also a bit scared dropping from a 1650x1080 screen to 1440x900, but the dot pitch and readability is so much better on this screen. My eyes haven't watered from strain at all with this screen whereas they always did with the higher DPI.

Temperature is no problem either. I'm running Parallels most of the time (which tends to push the avg. cpu usage up by about 10%) and the keyboard never gets more than 'warm', maybe a few degrees hotter than body temperature.

And thats to say nothing of OSX, what a fanatstic OS. Rock solid, fast and beautiful. I've moved all my work stuff into Parallels (where it happily stays) and am loving spending most of my time in OSX now. Yipee!

All in all, i'd like to say Thanks Apple - this one is definitely a keeper :)

For what it's worth, the matte screens Apple are using also seem to be very good in this regard, especially compared to some older ones. Excellent color saturation, very black blacks, etc. Perhaps not quite as much as a glossy, but still very good overall (it has blacker blacks and better color saturation than my Dell 2005fpw monitor or my Samsung 23" LCD HDTV).

Well if it's any consolation this uneven illumination problem is fixable. The picture I posted earlier was of a glossy screen on the left and my new MacBook Pro C2D on the right with a matte screen. The glossy MacBook Pro was sent off right away from almost the same problem that my C2d MBP has now. Our Apple repair man took it straight away and it was fixed.

He just happened to came today to pick up a broken iBook and took away my new one to have it looked at. Like the genius before him, he couldn't immediately see what was wrong with the display. I don't know, it's kind of obvious to me. Hopefully it will come back fixed like the glossy one did.

I got my C2D MBP last week, and I love it over my old Dell Inspiron 8200. My new machine is a 15.4"/2 gig RAM/160 gig HD glossy. I've noticed the glare a bit, but it's usually only in a situation like when it's daytime and I'm sitting in front of a window with blinds that let light in the room. It really doesn't bother me if I'm doing normal web surfing/word processing -- like watching TV in a bright room. I suppose if I were watching a movie or tv show it'd be an issue, but I'm going to be doing that stuff at night mostly anyway.

The battery life I still can't quite gauge. I haven't really made a scientific effort to figure it out. I calibrated it when I first got it, though I didn't follow the directions exactly. Seems like I can get 2.5+ hours with a few apps running.

The one thing I don't like that bothers me a little is that I wish the screen would have a bigger tilt angle, but I knew this was a complaint by some before I bought it. It's usually only an issue if I'm sitting on the couch or sitting in bed with the comp, but it can always be remedied by adjusting how I'm sitting a bit.

Overall, it's a wonderful machine. I'm so glad to have it.

I am a little afraid of saying this, but I do have a no problem MBP C2D, no heat, no wooo or stange sounds, no bad pixels, no problem with sleep returning, nothing, even an excelent wi-fi reception, much better than my former laptop (Vaio).
I can add, is the better looking, high perfomance, stream designed notebook ever, I really love it, and I hope that it keep without problems.
Best buy ever!:)

I wouldn't say things like that...you might jinx it, and it will turn to look like a THINKPAD!!

That problem seems to be very widespread right now. I almost wonder if Apple didn't have a bad production run where this problem occurred. I had two that both had that issue and decided to just return them. Macconnection.com was great about working with me so I'm thankful the refund was trouble free. Best of luck getting a working model.

How big was the difference with your screen? I mean, was it like night and day, the left side of the screen was really bright, and the right side was really dark? Or was it one of those things where the right side of it was maybe a shade darker than the left side?

It was pretty noticable. It actually got worse as the day went on it seems. The lower right was the worst. The trash can was really washed out in the dock and whites appeared gray in that area. Here is a picture I took last night before sending it back.

Ahh, I see, yeah, that is pretty bad. The only thing I've noticed is that when I'm looking straight on at my screen, the lower right hand corner looks like it might be a shade or two darker (but I also notice that if I then move my head to be looking straight on at that area, it is just as bright as anything else). But either way, even when showing a full solid color I haven't seen anything that looked like it does in your picture there.

nothing yet...

got my 2.16/2g/160/glossy last friday and have none of the reported problems so far... I am a bit paranoid about something developing (so I constantly put my ear to the thing, etc) as my CD MBP had nothing but problems.
